Scouting report

PHI QB Jalen Hurts - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Minnesota Vikings
Jalen Hurts had an underwhelming opener which was disappointing to managers who drafted him. The expectations were through the roof and he only threw for 171 yards which wasn't surprising from the standpoint he had games like that last season. The issue was he only rushed for 37 yards and was only responsible for one total touchdown.

The Vikings are the next opponent coming off a short week. We expect the Eagles offense to still be good this year and Hurts should bounce back against a below-average Minnesota defense.

Start Hurts as the top fantasy quarterback for Week 2. Philly will get their offense going and we will see the numbers for Hurts be closer to the 300 yard mark this Sunday.

PHI QB Jalen Hurts - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at New England Patriots
Jalen Hurts thinks he can do more and even if he repeats last year's performance, he will be one of the top fantasy quarterbacks each week. If he can throw even more touchdown passes, he could be No. 1 in 2023.

Hurts faces the Patriots who have some question marks on defense. Philly goes on the road as a favorite and the offense is expected to be one of the NFL's best again.

Start Hurts as a top-three fantasy quarterback for Week 1. He should be good in the passing game this Sunday and have his usual run success with a touchdown and a minimum of 50 rushing yards.

PHI QB Jalen Hurts - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Jalen Hurts made managers who drafted him look really smart last year as he wasn't selected until many other quarterbacks he outperformed were chosen ahead of him. He increased his production in every category completing 66% of his passes, throwing for 3,701 yards, and 22 touchdowns. Of course what sets him aside is his ability to run the football. He eclipsed the 700 rushing-yard mark for the second straight season and increased his rushing touchdown total to 13. Hurts also took care of the ball with only eight total turnovers.

Fantasy Downside
There isn't much downside here as Hurts signed his new contract and is firmly entrenched as the Eagles' quarterback now and for the future. Regression is possible, but all signs point towards him continuing these strong fantasy numbers.

2023 Bottom Line
Hurts has skyrocketed up the fantasy rankings to enter this season as the top-rated quarterback ahead of Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. There is little doubt these are the top three overall and although Hurts is being selected behind Mahomes in most cases, he is the better value at the position. Selecting him in the second round is not a bad strategy in 2023.

PHI QB Jalen Hurts - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Chicago Bears
After a dry stretch, Jalen Hurts has back-to-back 200+ passing yard games. He also produced three touchdowns and ran for 77 yards. This is what has made him a valuable fantasy quarterback because even though he doesn't throw for 300 yards every week, he produces scores and uses his legs to earn bonus fantasy points.

Hurts faces the Bears on the road this week. Chicago is ranked 24th in aFPA to quarterbacks. No reason to think he won't keep it going this week with a favorable matchup.

Starts Hurts as one of the top fantasy quarterbacks for Week 15. The Eagles QB puts up fantasy points even when he doesn't have a great passing day which is why he continues to rank high.

PHI QB Jalen Hurts - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at New York Giants
After going through a passing slump with three straight games under 200 yards passing, Jalen Hurts exploded last week, throwing for a season-high 380 yards and adding three touchdown passes. He also rushed for another although his rushing stats were down this week.

The division rival Giants are up next and are ranked 13th in aFPA to quarterbacks. In the two meetings last season, Hurts was held under 200 yards passing in both games. However, he is playing at a higher level this season.

Start Hurts as the No. 1 overall fantasy quarterback for Week 14. We expect a big game for the Eagles on offense against a very familiar defense.

PHI QB Jalen Hurts - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Tennessee Titans
Normally you would be alarmed with Jalen Hurts throwing for under 200 yards for the last three weeks. But the rushing yardage always makes up for it including him rushing for 157 yards last week. He also threw two touchdown passes.

Hurts faces the Titans who have struggled against the pass. The Titans are ranked 25th in aFPA to quarterbacks. It will be interesting to see if Hurts can get his passing yardage back up with a favorable matchup.

Start Hurts as a top-5 fantasy quarterback for Week 13. Even if the passing yardage doesn't go back up, his rushing ability will produce enough fantasy points to warrant the QB1 ranking.

PHI QB Jalen Hurts - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Green Bay Packers
Jalen Hurts had his second straight game throwing for less than 200 yards which was common last season, but has not been the case until lately in 2022. The good news is he got back to running the football where he rushed for 86 yards last Sunday, his highest total since Week 1. He also scored a rushing touchdown.

Hurts faces the Packers who are ranked 8th in aFPA to quarterbacks. We expect the passing numbers to eventually return to the levels we saw earlier in the season despite a decent Green Bay secondary.

Start Hurts as one of the top fantasy quarterbacks for Week 12. The fact he also got back to running the ball again helps his fantasy ranking.
