Scouting report

PIT WR George Pickens - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Houston Texans
George Pickens had another strong game as the Steelers' No. 1 receiver with four receptions for 75 yards. He definitely is capable of big plays each week and although the Pittsburgh passing game is still a work-in-progress, he is getting numbers the last two weeks.

Pickens faces the Texans who are ranked 10th in aFPA to wide receivers. There is little doubt that he can become one of the better wide receivers in the league, but the rest of the offense has to get better and that's not going to happen fast.

Start Pickens as a low-end WR2 for Week 4. Even with a tough matchup, we think he will continue to put up decent numbers.

PIT WR George Pickens - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Las Vegas Raiders
We are starting to see George Pickens evolve into the Steelers No. 1 receiver. QB Kenny Pickett and Pickens seem to be on the same page and last week, Pickens was targeted 10 times. The results were good with four receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown. The six missed passes will get better as Pickett continues to develop although there are questions around the Steelers offense overall.

Pickens will have a good chance to shine on Sunday night against the Raiders who are not very good defensively. Start Pickens as a high-end WR3 or Flex and hope the Pittsburgh offense gets their act together. It could push Pickens to a higher level.

PIT WR George Pickens - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Cleveland Browns
George Pickens is now the main target in the Steelers passing game although that might not be saying much after Week 1. The second-year receiver had five receptions for 36 yards but the targets should go up with Diontae Johnson out for several games. Pickens' stock is up even with the poor performance by QB Kenny Pickett.

Pickens had six catches in two games against Cleveland last season which produced 111 yards and a touchdown. We expect similar type numbers this week even though the Browns defense shut down Joe Burrow and the Bengals last week. Start Pickens as a solid WR3 or Flex for Week 2.

PIT WR George Pickens - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. San Francisco 49ers
George Pickens has made many highlight reels with great one-handed catches. But can he be a major fantasy factor? The answer is maybe. The Steelers will still see Diontae Johnson as their No. 1 but Pickens can make big plays including TD receptions.

The 49ers are the opponent and have a good overall defense. Pickens will get some opportunities, but the Steelers offense could struggle overall.

Start Pickens as a low-end WR3 or Flex for Week 1. He has more value in standard leagues than PPR, but still will be good enough most of the year to earn a starting spot on your roster.

PIT WR George Pickens - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
George Pickens got a lot of attention with some big plays during his rookie season. He had 28 deep targets last season, which was seventh most in the NFL. This shows how the Steelers used him in their vertical game. Pickens had solid overall numbers with 52 receptions for 801 yards. He has a very high ceiling going into 2023.

Fantasy Downside
Unfortunately for Pickens, his fantasy standing correlates with the progress of QB Kenny Pickett. For now, the Steelers have a below average passing game unless Pickett takes it to the next level.

2023 Bottom Line
Pickens ADP has him going anywhere from the 7th to the 9th round. Some feel he will end up being a No. 1 receiver for Pittsburgh while others are not sold on the overall passing game and therefore Pickens ability to increase his numbers. Drafting him is a risk if he is your third receiver, but if you can get him as your fourth receiver, you could be rewarded with a steal in this year's draft.

PIT WR George Pickens - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Baltimore Ravens
George Pickens had the game-winning touchdown last week and he ended the night with five receptions for 57 yards. The Steelers passing game remains conservative and they continue to have problems scoring. QB Kenny Pickett returned which seemed to help Pickens.

Next up is the Ravens who are ranked 12th in aFPA to wide receivers. In the first meeting with Baltimore, Pickens had three receptions for 78 yards.

We don't expect much from the Pittsburgh offense on the road so keep Pickens on the bench for Week 17.

PIT WR George Pickens - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Las Vegas Raiders
George Pickens was targeted five times which produced two catches for 53 yards last week against Carolina. The Steelers were run heavy so the passing game didn't put up any special numbers with backup QB Mitch Trubisky. Starter Kenny Pickett is set to return and has had a good repertoire with Pickens so that is a positive.

Pickens faces the Raiders who are ranked 16th in aFPA to wide receivers. The Steelers have been fairly conservative with the rookie quarterback so we don't expect huge passing numbers. Start Pickens in standard leagues as a WR3 for Flex for Week 16. However, there might be better options in full PPR leagues.
