Scouting report

IND QB Gardner Minshew - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Carolina Panthers

Gardner Minshew had 213 yards, a pair of touchdowns, and a pick in a loss to the Saints last week. It was a curious stat line, because he attempted 41 passes, but completed only 56.1% of them, easily the lowest percentage in a game this year. Minshew is more accurate than that typically, and he should see better efficiency moving forward.

Minshew has a tough matchup against a sneaky good Carolina defense that ranks eighth in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks this season. Minshew gets enough volume and is volatile enough in matchups to be worth considering as a low-end QB1 this week, given the bye week and injury situations around the league, but it’s scary to trust him. We have him as a solid streaming option.

IND QB Gardner Minshew - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. New Orleans Saints

Gardner Minshew has been very inconsistent, but you hold your breath every game with him. He threw for 305 yards, a pair of touchdowns, and a pick in a close and wild loss to the Browns last week, his second consecutive game with over 300 yards passing.

This week, Minshew faces a New Orleans defense that ranks 16th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. He’s risky, but he is surrounded by good weapons and has the potential to put up multiple touchdowns again. Start him as a QB2 or a risky streaming option in deeper leagues.

IND QB Gardner Minshew - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Cleveland Browns

Gardner Minshew had a really rough day against the Jaguars last week. While he threw for 329 yards and a touchdown, it was in a lopsided loss and he also had three interceptions and lost a fumble. Better days will be ahead for the journeyman, but it was hard to watch.

This week, Minshew has the misfortune of facing the Browns. Cleveland ranks fifth in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks, and just shut down the behemoth San Francisco offense. Minshew has some interesting fantasy potential with Anthony Richardson now out for the remainder of the season, but this isn’t the week to start him. Stay away.

IND QB Gardner Minshew - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Jacksonville Jaguars

Gardner Minshew had 155 yards in relief of Anthony Richardson last week, and it looks like he’ll be starting for the next few games with Richardson sidelined. Minshew may not have lit up the fantasy scoreboard, but he completed an efficient 11 of his 14 pass attempts and delivered the victory over the division rival Titans.

This week, Minshew has a pretty good matchup against a Jaguars defense that ranks 21st in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. Expect the team to lean on the run game again, but Minshew has some upside with the weapons around him. He’s a decent streamer in 2QB formats or deep leagues.

IND QB Gardner Minshew - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Gardner Minshew filled in for Anthony Richardson admirably last week, leading the Colts to a victory over the Ravens behind 227 yards and a touchdown through the air. Minshew attempted 44 passes and it was good to see him connecting with the top wide receivers for the Colts. Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Alec Pierce combined for 30 targets on the day.

Assuming Minshew starts again - check Anthony Richardson’s status when it gets closer to game time - he has a tough matchup against a Rams defense that ranks seventh in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks this year. Minshew is worth consideration in deep 2QB leagues, but in most formats, he should remain on waivers this week.

Update: It's looking like Richardson is going to play, so be sure to have a backup plan in place if you were looking to start Minshew this week.

IND QB Gardner Minshew - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Baltimore Ravens

Gardner Minshew filled in admirably for an injured Anthony Richardson last week, throwing for 171 yards and a touchdown in a lopsided victory over the Texans. Minshew completed 82% of his 23 pass attempts and looks very capable of starting this week, should Richardson miss the game after suffering a concussion.

The Ravens have been pretty tough on opposing quarterbacks so far this season, limiting C.J. Stroud to 242 yards and a fumble in Week 1, and then forcing Joe Burrow into an interception last week - although Burrow did throw a pair of touchdowns and 222 yards. Expect a moderate day for Minshew, with an emphasis on the Indianapolis ground game, yielding QB2 numbers. He’s worth streaming in 2QB leagues, but in most leagues, he should remain on waivers this week.

PHI QB Gardner Minshew - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. New Orleans Saints
With the exception of the two interceptions. Gardner Minshew's first start of the season was a pretty good fantasy outing. He threw for 355 yards and two touchdowns, and also ran for a touchdown. Jalen Hurts has taken snaps in practice this week although there is no indication he will play Sunday.

Minshew faces New Orleans who is ranked 18th in aFPA to quarterbacks. He has had a good track record with the Eagles in games he has played and with a neutral matchup, his numbers should be good again this week.

Start Minshew as a low-end QB1 for Week 17. If you were lucky enough to pick him up last week, he probably helped you to a fantasy win and can help again this week.
