Scouting report

CIN TE Drew Sample - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Tennessee
Drew Sample was targeted six times last Sunday which produced 52 yards. They were good numbers considering what the other skill players on the Bengals were able to accumulate on a day when QB Joe Burrow threw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns. The main issue is there are so many weapons in Cincinnati that Sample could be the odd man out when the numbers regress on certain weeks.

Sample faces the Titans who are 31st in aFPA to tight ends. Despite the favorable matchup, there are too many other options for targets. He will get some numbers but he's still a TE2 and is a depth guy on your roster at best.

CIN TE Drew Sample - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Cleveland
Drew Sample had zero catches last week and one target, but still has been involved in the Bengals passing game for the most part. He had nine receptions for 45 yards in the first meeting with the Browns. Cleveland is ranked 24th in aFPA to tight ends which means there is a matchup advantage.

We still recommend keeping Sample on the bench because the passing game is working through the wide receiving corp and that's where QB Joe Burrow is looking most of the time.

CIN TE Drew Sample - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Indianapolis
Drew Sample played 94% of the snaps last week against the Ravens which means he has been at 85% or higher the past three games. He was only targeted twice which produced two receptions for 22 yards. But it is a positive the playing time he is getting.

Sample does play a very good defense in the Colts who are ranked eighth in aFPA to tight ends. Although Sample is a definitive starter on the Bengals, he still isn't getting consistent targets as the Bengals are focused on their other weapons.

Keep Sample on the bench for Week 6 as he only ranks a low-end TE2. Still probably not good enough for anything but depth at this point of the season.

CIN TE Drew Sample - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Baltimore
Drew Sample has solidified himself has the every down tight end over the last two weeks playing 89% and 85% of the snaps. His numbers haven't been conisistent so far with two games where he had 5+ targets and two games where only had 1 in each game.

Sample faces the Ravens who are 22nd in aFPA to tight ends. We have really only seen one big game so far from him, but at least he is getting on the fields and is an option for QB Joe Burrow. He ranks a TE2 for Week 5 so keep him on the bench against Baltimore.

CIN TE Drew Sample - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Philadelphia
Drew Sample takes over C.J. Uzomah who is injured. He was a factor in the second half of the Bengals loss as he ended up with seven catches for 45 yards. Sample did not play much his rookie season with only five receptions for the entire year. He will have an opportunity to make his mark now.

Sample faces the Eagles who are 8th in aFPA to tight ends. The Eagles weren't very good on defense last week, but tight ends haven't had much success so far.

Sample is on the fantasy radar, but he is not yet ready to contribute as he is ranked as a low-end TE2 at this point. Keep an eye on him and see how the Bengals use him over the next several weeks.
