49ers TE Vernon Davis says there's a 'small chance' he plays in Week 5

On his way out of the locker room, 49ers tight end Vernon Davis (back) told reporters that there was a "small chance" that he would play Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: 

It looks like the team will be without Davis in Week 5. Vance McDonald and Derek Carrier would be in line for snaps with Davis sidelined. Expect Colin Kaepernick to lean more on his receivers without his stud TE in the lineup.

49ers TE Vernon Davis (back, questionable) missed practice again Thursday and is questionable for Week 5. Davis seems unlikely to play this week. Vance McDonald is battling a knee injury, but if he’s active he should see snaps ahead of Derek Carrier if Davis is out. The 49ers once again play in the late round of games on Sunday, so owners may be sweating his status again in Week 5.

Vernon Davis suffers back spasms

After the game, 49ers TE Vernon Davis said he experienced back spasms after getting hit awkwardly and bending forward, and that he felt confident that all would be well enough for him to be on the field against the Chiefs next weekend.

“I’ll be good,” Davis said, via the San Francisco Chronice. “I’ll be fine.”

Fantasy Impact: 

Davis was also battling an ankle injury leading up to this game. With Vance McDonald also out, Derek Carrier took over at TE when Davis couldn't return. Davis says he will be fine for Week 5 but it's always tough to trust a player's opinion when it comes to injuries.

Tight end Vance McDonald came off the practice field after all of his teammates to go through a workout with position coach Eric Mangini. "You can see how much I'm sweating," McDonald told reporters before adding that he "absolutely" would play on Sunday after missing Week 3 with a bum knee.

Fantasy Impact: 

Vernon Davis is questionable, but if he can't play, it sounds like McDonald would be the player to get the biggest bump in snaps. McDonald was playing ahead of third-string TE Derek Carrier prior to the knee injury.
