NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Carolina Panthers

Daniel Jones threw two touchdowns last week and added 25 rushing yards to his 188 passing yards. However, he also threw a really ugly interception in the end zone and ended up getting what looked like a stern talking to from new head coach Brian Daboll. Jones has some rushing upside, and the dumpoffs to Saquon Barkley look like they could be lucrative. However, he’s simply too volatile to trust, and fantasy managers should look away if possible, regardless of matchup.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Tennessee Titans

Daniel Jones had a rough season in 2021 and is now entering the final year of his rookie contract. He was limited to just 11 games last year, and was 19th in average fantasy points per game among quarterbacks. He has some upside if there’s better health around him and if the additions on the offensive line work out, but he’s too risky to trust in Week 1, even against a Titans defense that struggled against quarterbacks last season and just lost one of their top pass-rushers, Harold Landry to an ACL last week. Consider Jones a low-end QB2 option.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
The much-maligned Daniel Jones enters his fourth season with a huge question mark regarding his long-term status as the Giants’ signal-caller, but he actually has a tremendous amount of upside. The team was riddled with injuries last season, and theoretically will have better luck with health. The addition of mammoth tackle Evan Neal with the seventh pick in the draft should help solidify an offensive line that has struggled for years. Brian Daboll takes over at head coach after leading the Bills to the third-highest scoring offense in football last year. Also, if you squint, Jones has a similar skill set to Josh Allen, who Daboll is largely credited for developing into one of the best quarterbacks in football. Jones is also a dual-threat quarterback who has averaged 26.3 rushing yards per game throughout his career.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Jones also has struggled heavily in his three years in New York. Not only does he sport a 12-25 record as a starter, he has captained an offense that ranked 31st in the league in each of the past two seasons and dead last since 2020 combined. He’s also been nicked up in each of his three seasons, including missing six games last year. While his weapons should be better and healthier this year, all the players who were hurt last season – Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard, Saquon Barkley, and Kadarius Toney – have some level of question marks associated with them. If he struggles, this could be his last season in New York and his last year being anywhere close to fantasy relevant.

2022 Bottom Line
Jones’ risk is baked into his ADP, as he’s going at the end of most drafts. He’s going to be a viable streaming option in 1QB formats, but won’t be worth drafting. In 2QB leagues, he’s worth gambling on as a second starter, but even then, fantasy managers will want a solid backup plan in place given his injury history and the question marks surrounding the Giants’ offense.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Miami Dolphins

Daniel Jones had a modest outing against the Eagles last week. He finished a Giants victory with 202 yards and a touchdown, but added 30 yards on the ground. His rushing has always made him an intriguing fantasy prospect, but the Giants offense has struggled so much, it’s hard to bank on him week-to-week.

This week, Jones faces a Dolphins defense that ranks 27th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. That’s a little misleading, however, with the defense tightening up over the past four contests. Jones is way too volatile to trust and we have him ranked as a low-end QB2 option at best. Look elsewhere.

Update: Looks like Jones is out this week, and perhaps longer. Hopefully, you weren't counting on, but leave him on waivers for certain now.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Last week was ugly for Daniel Jones and the rest of the Giants offense. Jones ended up with just 167 yards, a touchdown and a pair of interceptions as the Buccaneers destroyed New York 30-10. Jones now has just nine touchdowns and seven interceptions this season and he’s only gone over 20 rushing yards once in his past six games.

This week, Jones faces an Eagles defense that ranks 20th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. It’s a nice matchup in theory, but Jones has been so bad this season, it’s hard to trust him. There may be a small coordinator bump as Jason Garrett was replaced by Freddie Kitchens this week, but Jones is still too risky to start. Sit him.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Daniel Jones had 110 yards and a touchdown, along with 17 yards rushing against the Raiders before the bye last week. Jones has the Giants playing competitive ball the past few weeks, but he’s not scoring much in the fantasy department. His rushing production hasn’t been enough to compensate for his measly eight touchdowns this season, making it hard to recommend starting him on a weekly basis.

This week, Jones faces a Buccaneers defense that ranks 20th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. Jones has upside in a decent matchup, but he’s really only worth consideration as a QB2 option, given his volatility. Look to him with caution in deep leagues that start two passers, but leave him on waivers in 1QB formats.

NYG QB Daniel Jones - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Daniel Jones had a modest 222 yards and two touchdowns with a pick last week against the Chiefs, adding 12 yards on five carries. Jones has been serviceable at times this season, particularly as an injury replacement or streaming option, but he hasn’t put up significant rushing totals since Week 2. Keep an eye on that development, as Jones loses significant upside without rushing production.

This week, Jones faces a Raiders defense that ranks 17th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. He’s once again worthy of consideration as a streamer for fantasy managers with bye week or injury concerns, but we have him ranked as a fringe QB1 option. Use him if you have to.
