Curtis Samuel activated from PUP, will not be rushed back, per Ron Rivera

Washington WR Curtis Samuel (groin) was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform list Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: 

Washington head coach Ron Rivera stated the team will not rush Samuel back. Samuel continues to work on the sideline, in pads, with trainers. He has not fully practiced since June OTAs. As Jhabvala also tweeted, "Ron Rivera said Curtis Samuel does 'not necessarily' need preseason reps for them to feel comfortable with where he's at 'but he'll be out there.' Rivera reiterated that they're not going to rush him back." Washington also released WR Kelvin Harmon.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera said there is currently no timetable for a return for WR Curtis Samuel (groin).

Fantasy Impact: 

“There's no timetable for Curtis. He's been in the system, he knows it. Yeah, you'd love for him to catch a few reps maybe in the last preseason game, but we're not going to rush him out there,” Rivera said Sunday. It certainly sounds like there’s a pretty good chance we don’t see Samuel at all during the preseason, especially now that it’s only three games. The hope is he’ll be back for Week 1 against the Chargers. The time lost also means lost opportunities to build an early connection with new quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. This will certainly be worth monitoring over the next few weeks.

Curtis Samuel to return to the practice field Sunday

Washington WR Curtis Samuel (groin, Covid reserve list) will return to the practice field Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: 

He’ll be on the side field working with trainers. He has been on the active/PUP list with a groin injury that has kept him out of practice since June. Certainly a good sign, nonetheless, that he is getting work, even if on the side, as he is seemingly inching towards being fully activated. Samuel is currently our No. 35 WR in half-PPR.

Rookie WR Dyami Brown probably won't be a Day 1 starter.

No. 3 WR spot will come down to Adam Humphries or Cam Sims behind Terry McClaurin/Curtis Samuel. Ex-Patriot DeAndre Carter involved as a returner.

One more note: I'm not sensing any major concern over WFT FA addition WR Curtis Samuel, who's on PUP and COVID lists.

Fantasy Impact: 

Brown has been a name to watch. The tweet said he's making plays, catching on quickly and his speed jumps out. As for Samuel, he's looking to get back on the field, but Kyed reminds us Samuel played in Scott Turner's system in Carolina and should be able to hit the ground running.
