Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch goes into the first practice of the week today with a slight edge to start over Byron Leftwich against the Buccaneers.

The one thing that seems certain about a position that has been mired in a cycle of uncertainty: The Steelers have to decide sooner rather than later who will start under center Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Fantasy Impact:

There is little fantasy value with the Steelers QB position unless you are scrambling for a QB in week 3.

At this point, it looks like Charlie Batch will start this week in Tampa for the Steelers, but Tomlin left the door open for Byron Leftwich to step in.

Steelers Dixon has tear in meniscus of knee

And then there were two, apparently.

With the Steelers poised to pick from a trio of quarterbacks for Sunday's game in Tampa against the surprisingly undefeated Buccaneers, one of them could be unavailable.

Per a league source, an MRI revealed that Dennis Dixon has a tear in the lateral meniscus of his left knee. Three years ago, he tore an ACL in the same knee.

The source says that Dixon will be getting a second opinion on Tuesday and determining the next steps on Wednesday.

That possibly leaves Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich as the options for Sunday, if Dixon can't play.

QB Dennis Dixon Named Pittsburgh's Opening Day Starter

Dennis Dixon will start at quarterback for the Steelers when they open the season Sunday against Atlanta at Heinz Field.

Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that today after Dixon ran the first-team offense in practice and Charlie Batch ran the second team.

Dixon has made one start and just two appearances in his first two seasons with the Steelers. The Steelers were preparing Byron Leftwich to be their starter during Ben Roethlisberger's four-game suspension, but Leftwich will miss two to four weeks after a sprained MCL to his left knee in the second quarter of Thursday night's final preseason game.

Fantasy Impact:

While Batch was the safer choice, Dixon offers more upside and his presence in the lineup helps the fantasy value of the other Steeler offensive players.
