Scouting report

by Scot Berggren

HOU QB Brandon Weeden - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Tennessee
With Brian Hoyer still going through the concussion protocol and T.J. Yates out for the season with a torn ACL, the Texans may turn to Brandon Weeden as their fourth starting QB of the season. Filling in for Yates last week in the win at Indy, Brandon went 11-for-18 for 105 yards with a TD toss to Jaelen Strong. He didn't have much success with the Cowboys earlier this season before being waived. If he's the starter, despite having a decent matchup versus the Titans, there is little reason for Weeden to be in your starting lineup.

DAL QB Brandon Weeden - Week 5, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs New England

In two starts since Brandon Weeden took over for the injured Tony Romo, he has averaged 239 yards passing and a total of one touchdown and one interception. So there have been mixed results for the backup who is playing without Dez Bryant.

He faces a pretty bad New England defense who is 28th in aFPA to quarterbacks, but he had a good matchup last week against New Orleans and his numbers were very average. Even with the nice matchup at home, we don't expect much from Weeden and neither should you. He should definitely be on your bench for Week 5.

DAL QB Brandon Weeden - Week 4, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs Saints
Brandon Weeden's numbers weren't great last week. Obviously, the goose egg in the touchdown column stands out, but the Cowboys didn't have much of a downfield passing game which could be worrisome. He still managed to throw for 232 yards, but that alone isn't going to help fantasy owners.

Weeden faces a Saints pass defense that is poor against opposing QBs this season. However, it will be in the Superdome which worries us. With Dez Bryant out and Weeden's pedigree, he has no value for Week 4. Keep him out of your lineup.

DAL QB Brandon Weeden - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs Atlanta
Brandon Weeden gets the start this week, but he might not be the long term solution until Tony Romo comes back. The Cowboys traded for Matt Cassel, so he could get a chance if Weeden stumbles. However, if Weeden plays like he did last week against Philly, Cassel might not ever see the field. Weeden was a perfect 7-for-7 for 73 yards and a touchdown in relief of Romo last week. It's a small sample size, but it might give Cowboy fans some hope. From a fantasy standpoint, Weeden is a non-factor until we see more of him. Keep him on the bench (and probably the waiver wire) for Week 3.
