49ers beat writer Tim Kawakami reports on the extension negotiations between the 49ers and QB Colin Kaepernick:

Kaepernick said during Super Bowl week that he’s open to striking a balance between what he wants and what’s best for the team salary structure, and from what I’ve heard, nothing said over the weekend contradicted that.

Of course, the parameters of “balance” could mean different things to both sides–does that mean Kaepernick will ask for $20M per instead of $22M? Or does it mean he’ll talk about $16M-17M per with steps to get him up to $20M?

Either way, it sounds like $15M to $16M is the floor for an average salary here.

TreVeyon Henderson misses practice Saturday with ankle injury

Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson did not practice Saturday as he continues to deal with an ankle injury.

Fantasy Impact:

Saturday marked the first practice in preparation for Wednesday’s season opener and Super Bowl rematch against the Seahawks. Henderson has not practiced now in almost two weeks. An official injury report is due this weekend but Henderson’s status Sunday and Monday is very much worth monitoring for his Week 1 availability. If Henderson can’t go, Rhamondre Stevenson would be in line for even more work as the lead back, with newly-acquired Corey Kiner behind him. For those drafting this weekend, continue to treat both Stevenson and Henderson as RB3s/Flexes in the middle rounds of your draft.

Josh Jacobs’ initial court appearance moved up to Sept. 10

Jacobs’ initial court appearance has been rescheduled from Nov. 17 to Sept. 10, according to Brown County court records.

Jacobs likely will not appear personally because his attorneys have filed authorization to represent him at the hearing. The Packers running back faces misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from a May 23 incident.

Fantasy Impact:

Moving the hearing ahead by more than two months could provide earlier clarity regarding Jacobs’ legal situation and the NFL’s response, but an initial appearance does not guarantee an immediate resolution or his removal from the exempt list. Jacobs remains unavailable until the league changes his status. Lloyd continues to be the primary fantasy beneficiary, with Johnson and Brooks providing deeper backfield insurance.

Solak: Travis Hunter expected to spend far more time on defense

ESPN’s Ben Solak expects Hunter to spend considerably more time at cornerback this season.

Jacksonville has Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers and Brian Thomas Jr. available at wide receiver, while its defense lacks a true No. 1 cornerback. Solak believes Hunter will consequently be used primarily on defense, with his offensive value potentially coming as a high-upside replacement if one of the Jaguars’ three established receivers is injured.

Fantasy Impact: A defense-heavy assignment would leave Hunter without the route volume necessary for dependable redraft production. His offensive talent gives him considerable contingent upside, but he presently looks more like a real-life luxury reserve than a legit fantasy option. Our ranking already accounts for that risk, placing him 32 spots below market ADP.
