Those expecting to see Chip Kelly's fast-paced offense in his first preseason game with the Eagles might have been confused by the team's opening drive.
The offense started out of the huddle on Friday night against the New England Patriots. The Eagles weren't rushing to the line of scrimmage. Then the pace picked up, accelerating during Nick Foles' touchdown drive in the second quarter.
But it decelerated again later in the quarter, and Matt Barkley operated out of huddle.
The story pointed out that Kelly has maintained that his offense goes at different paces, and it's not always at the breakneck speed of the reputation that precedes him. He would not say after Sunday's practice whether Friday's pace was an indication of how the Eagles will play this season, noting that the team had specific areas it wanted to work on in the opener.
