Eli Manning to the rescue.

OK, not the rescue really, but Tom Coughlin said the Giants’ starting quarterback is expected back on the field - with a helmet on his head - this week, perhaps as soon as tomorrow when the Giants resume practice.

It’s not known whether Manning will play in the Giants’ third preseason game, Saturday in Baltimore, but considering the starters don’t usually play much at all in the fourth game, it’s a good bet that Manning will get the start on Saturday night.

Manning missed last night’s game, of course, because of the three-inch cut on his head that he suffered last Monday night against the Jets. According to Coughlin, the 12 stitches were removed from the cut last week and he added, "I wasn’t kidding. He does heal fast."
