Tony Romo running scout team

The Cowboys don’t want to take many practice reps away from quarterback Matt Cassel, but they’re also trying to get Tony Romo up to speed, so that when their real quarterback is back, there’s no rust.

Via Todd Archer of ESPN.com, Romo has taken some of the scout team work in 11-on-11 drills, and will continue to as he works back from the broken collarbone that has cost him six weeks.

It’s no accident that absence has coincided with a six-game losing streak for the Cowboys, so they want to try to get the starters for the next two games as much work as possible with the ones.

“He had a good practice,” Garrett said. “He did a lot of scout-team stuff and that gave him the chance to work seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 for the first time in a little while.”

Fantasy Impact:

Romo is eligible to come back from injured reserve/designated for return on Nov. 22 against the Dolphins. The big question will be whether it's worth the risk to send him out there if the season is lost before that. The NFC East still seems up for grabs, however, but the Cowboys could use a win to stay in the hunt.
