Jags General manager David Caldwell didn't rule out tight end Julius Thomas (hand) being kept out longer by injury.
"That was probably the toughest [thing about Saturday]: Trying to finagle who we’re going to keep and who’s going to be available to play this week," Caldwell said. "We do have a couple of injuries going into the season, and just some nagging stuff. The good news is that everybody that is not going to play this week, and in the short-term, they’re going to come back and it’s not season-ending.
"We just have to get through the first couple of weeks and make sure we have enough guys to play special teams and be backups and help the team win."
Caldwell said last week that the hope was that Thomas would be able to return in Week 4.
The story said it will be another two weeks before the Jaguars can come up with a more definitive timeline for Thomas. Thomas underwent surgery last Tuesday to stabilize his fractured hand and had a screw inserted. Caldwell said he’ll have a better timetable for Thomas’ return after he’s rechecked in two weeks. If his hand is responding Thomas could be back in time for the Jaguars’ game at Indianapolis on Sept. 27.
