PHI RB Jay Ajayi - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Miami
Jay Ajayi was picked up several weeks ago and got some playing time last week with Jordan Howard out. Ajayi had six carries for 16 yards. Expect similar touches this week and maybe slightly better results. However, Ajayi still doesn't have enough value to be on a fantasy roster unless it is very deep.

PHI RB Jay Ajayi - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Darren Sproles and Corey Clement still have not returned to practice, as of Thursday. That means Jay Ajayi only has to share the backfield with Wendell Smallwood if both are out again. Monitor their status, as more than a two-man RBBC will lower Ajayi's Week 5 prospects. The good news is Ajayi avoided the injury report this week in a match-up against a top-10 aFPA to RBs defense. 18 touches last week in this same situation with Smallwood show Ajayi is in line for RB2 numbers again this week, with upside from their if he finds the end zone.

PHI RB Jay Ajayi - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Tennessee Titans

This game has the third-lowest total on the week, implying a low-scoring game. Ajayi is battling a back issue but turned in a full practice Thursday after missing Wednesday. He should be fine for Week 4. He's likely not going to be a high-volume option, though, if his first two games and snap counts are any indication. Against a top-10 defense in aFPA to RBs, Ajayi will have to find the end zone to return flex or RB2 value in Week 4.

PHI RB Jay Ajayi - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Philadelphia has an attractive 27-point implied team total this week, which should lead to positive game script for the running backs. The Colts are also just 25th in PPR points allowed to the running back position through two weeks. However, Ajayi and Darren Sproles both missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. If Ajayi plays, he's likely a touchdown-or-bust candidate again after being out-touched by Corey Clement last week, 11 to 8.

PHI RB Jay Ajayi - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Doug Pederson continues to say Jay Ajayi will receive even more work than the 15 carries he had in Week 1. That's encouraging considering he only played 40 percent of snaps. His elite offensive line is encouraging too against a Tampa Bay defense that allowed Alvin Kamara to run wild last week and was just 18th in aFPA to RBs. Ajayi is again a good bet to find the end zone and should retain RB2 value this week again.

PHI RB Jay Ajayi - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Atlanta Falcons (Thursday)
Ajayi opens the season as the unquestioned starter in the Eagles backfield with LeGarrette Blount no longer in the picture, and he'll run behind an elite run-blocking offensive line. The question in this offense for starting backs though is always volume and pass-catching, as Corey Clement and Darren Sproles are still in the rotation. Ajayi should see goal line work but against a top-five defense in aFPA versus RBs last year and the presence of an RBBC. Consider Ajayi a mid-to-low RB2 for Thursday night.

PHI RB Jay Ajayi - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

The Eagles no longer have LeGarrette Blount in their backfield, who leaves 181 touches and a ranking in the top 10 among RBs in carries inside the 10 behind. Ajayi put up FLEX numbers after being traded to Philadelphia midseason, with high efficiency at more than five yards per carry. Ajayi should get most of Blount’s carries, which would move him into RB2 territory with high TD upside in a great offense with an elite offensive line.

Fantasy Downside

Corey Clement and Darren Sproles could throw a monkey wrench into Ajayi's volume this season. No RB averaged more than 11.4 touches per game last season on this roster. Doug Pederson indicated this summer the use of his RBs will be game specific. That could pose fantasy headaches for those with Ajayi in redraft leagues.

2018 Bottom Line

Our projection for Ajayi gives him the most volume among RBs being drafted in the fourth or fifth round. That's enticing in a high-scoring offense with an elite offensive line. Pederson's history of running back usage is a concern.

PHI RB Jay Ajayi - Week 21 Fantasy Football Outlook

Super Bowl vs. New England Patriots

What matters in this different one-game format is not so much how many points we project each player for but how much each player costs per point. In FanDuel's half-point PPR format, here's how we value the running backs in terms of dollar/FanDuel point: Rex Burkhead>Jay Ajayi>Dion Lewis>LeGarrette Blount>Corey Clement>James Develin.

As for DraftKings' full PPR scoring, here's how we value the running backs in terms of dollar/DraftKings point: Jay Ajayi>Rex Burkhead>Dion Lewis>James White>LeGarrette Blount>Corey Clement>James Develin.

PHI RB Jay Ajayi - Week 20 Fantasy Football Outlook

NFC Conference Championship vs. Minnesota Vikings

Jay Ajayi's early fumble against the Falcons led to a continued split in the backfield against the Falcons last week. His 18 touches were still solid, though, including his 3 receptions for 44 yards. It will be tough sledding this week against a Vikings defense that is top-three in aFPA to RBs. His value is much higher in full PPR DFS formats this week. Take that into consideration.

PHI RB Jay Ajayi - Week 19 Fantasy Football Outlook

Divisional Round vs. Atlanta Falcons

The Eagles have the third-lowest implied team total in Vegas this week at 19 points as an underdog. With Nick Foles at quarterback, head coach Doug Pederson has hinted the team will rely more heavily on Jay Ajayi. However, the Falcons are first in our aFPA vs. RB rankings. Ajayi did play well against Atlanta earlier this year, but negative game script is a concern in this matchup. He's not an upper-tier RB option in the divisional round.
