Texans to stick with Ryan Mallet

Texans coach Bill O’Brien said that Ryan Mallett remains his starting quarterback.

“He’s our starting quarterback,” O’Brien said Monday. “We all have to do better. Ryan has to play better. We have to coach better. I believe Mallett understands that.”

Mallett was replaced by backup Brian Hoyer during the Texans’ 48-21 loss to the Falcons at the Georgia Dome.

“Losing like that is never going to be acceptable,” O’Brien said. “It’s my responsibility to make sure that never happens again. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure we improve. We have to make an honest assessment. I have to coach better.

“We have to cut down on turnovers, catch the ball better, tackle better, eliminate penalties. Those are some of the things we have to improve on. I know many players took responsibility and I appreciate that.”Ryan Mallett played on nine series and failed to generate a point. He threw an interception the Falcons turned into a touchdown. Brian Hoyer entered down 42-0 and led three touchdown drives."
