DraftKings Week 3 Slate Breakdown with Cash and GPP Picks
Below you'll find my Week 3 DraftKings cash game and tournament strategies. By offering a general approach to the week, along with a player pool to consider, you should walk away feeling well-equipped no matter your bankroll strategy or game selection process.
Kyle Allen ($4,000) is squarely in play at minimum salary. I think when you are deciding to play Allen it comes down to a 2v2 with value at other positions. Frank Gore ($4,400) will get the start but I'm not sure his role changes all that much with TJ Yeldon getting receiving down work. Rostering Allen allows you to fit in 2-3 stud running backs in cash. I also think Allen's floor and ceiling are higher than the value at other positions. You sacrifice the chance at a 30 point game from your quarterback, but you add 30-points in your range of outcomes in your flex spot. The bottom line is I would trust Allen in an up-tempo game at quarterback over aging Frank Gore or an extremely think wide receiver play. I also think the Chiefs' backs can be considered in GPP, but the fact that there are three of them vying for work seems as though they'd cannibalize each other. I'm not saying Allen is a must-play in cash, but he's my preffered pay down option over the other value on the slate.
Main Slate Cash Game Strategy
I thought Week 1 and 2 provided clear-cut options in cash games at quarterback. That’s also the case in Week 3, but there are more options than I’d like there to be. It’s going to be hard to ignore the matchup in Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes ($7,600) and Lamar Jackson ($7,000) are the top two quarterbacks on the slate in terms of point projection and salary. The game has an implied score of 31-24 Chiefs. Both quarterbacks provide an extremely high ceiling and floor but my roster construction will come down to pricing—if I can fit Mahomes I’ll likely do so. The path for Jackson to not meet value is a bit greater than Mahomes, as I can see the running game vulturing scores, whereas the Chiefs’ backs are dinged up and have been largely ineffective through two games.
