11 Stash Candidates Ahead of Week 8

The trade deadline is approaching, several backfields are waiting on injury updates, and this week’s byes give us a few opportunities to acquire players who can’t help anybody’s starting lineup Sunday.

Some of these situations could become obvious waiver-wire priorities before the week is over. Others require a little more patience. The goal is to identify the next useful role before everybody else gets a box score or depth-chart announcement telling them to pay attention.

Seth McGowan, RB - Colts (8%)

Seth McGowan belongs on fantasy benches before we find out whether Indianapolis intends to keep Jonathan Taylor.

McGowan handled 11 carries in Week 7 while playing 30.5% of the Colts’ offensive snaps, comfortably above his 19.8% season-long rate. His share of the team’s rushing attempts climbed to 33.3%, compared with 16% for the season. Nathan Jahnke also noted that McGowan’s work has been arriving earlier in games as of late.

Indianapolis fell to 2-5, has already fired its general manager, and faces a decision about whether to sell before the trade deadline. Taylor’s name has been part of that discussion, creating substantial upside for the only other running back the Colts have consistently used.
