Five Fantasy Football Players to Buy Despite Injury
To some, the easy route to take in fantasy football is to completely fade every player returning from injury. However, this often leads to missing out on elite league-winning upside. As a physical therapist, I have identified five players who are ready to produce despite injury.
Jonathon Brooks
Injury: ACL
A devastating second ACL injury for Jonathon Brooks in 2024 had many questioning if he would ever bounce back. Two years later, the script has completely flipped.
One study of elite athletes showed that following revision ACL surgeries without meniscal involvement, like Brooks, 94.4% were able to return to sport at their prior level. Research also suggests no significant difference in re-injury rate between initial ACL surgery and revision ACL surgery. His surgery was performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who most likely utilized additional stabilizing techniques to decrease his risk of re-injury and improve graft stability. Finally, re-injury risk typically decreases about two years after ACL surgery, and Brooks will be 21 months post-op to begin the NFL season.
Brooks has had ample time to rebuild his strength and confidence, and I think he will finally get the chance to show what he can do at the NFL level.
