Fantasy Football Trader's Alley Week 7: Players to Buy, Hold, and Sell
Trading can be quite a frustrating task in fantasy football. It is seemingly impossible to put together an offer that makes both sides happy, and communicating with other league members can also be difficult. In the Trader’s Alley, I’m going to try and guide you through making trades in your league this season. Using 4for4’s powerful trade evaluator tool, I’ll highlight players to buy, sell, and hold each week, and also create some hypothetical trades based on what the tool tells us.
This article will assume the following starting roster settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX. Feel free to change the configurations to fit your league in the trade evaluator yourself.
We are rapidly approaching the midseason mark of the fantasy football regular season, meaning more trades are being fired off than ever before. So, I thought it would be a good time to go over some general trading etiquette guidelines to maximize the chances that you can pull a deal off.
- Talk to the other team: As is the case in any relationship, communication is key to trading in fantasy football. Don’t just blindly send an offer in your league portal and hope someone accepts it—talk to them about the players involved in the deal so they get more context behind why you offered what you did.
- Don’t be afraid of the group chat reactions: Sometimes, in order to get a player you really want, you have to sacrifice a lot of value on paper. However, try not to let that impact your decision-making—if there’s a player you truly believe will make your team better, don’t hesitate to give up a little more than expected, even if it means you might get made fun of by your other league members in the short term.
- Trade based on strengths and weaknesses of both parties: You might be looking to trade a running back away for a receiver, but offering that deal to a team with Christian McCaffrey and Raheem Mostert probably isn’t going to be accepted. Instead, sort through the teams in your league (especially the ones near the bottom) and formulate offers that address a need for both teams involved.
Back to regularly scheduled programming…let’s dive into some of the top buy, hold, and sell candidates after Week 6 of the NFL season.
