Geno Smith is Your Fantasy Football League-Winner in 2023
Geno Smith is coming off his best year in the NFL, earning himself a Pro Bowl selection and even some MVP votes in 2022. After serving as a backup since 2015, Smith finished last season as the QB5 in fantasy football and was cemented as the Seahawks starter this offseason with a three-year $105 million contract. Seattle bolstered their receiving arsenal in the Draft and now it’s up to Smith to prove that last season was his new norm and not an aberration.

Geno Smith’s 2022 Season Review
For most veterans, it’s worth taking a look at their body of work in order to project their future outcomes. Prior to 2022, though, Smith hadn’t consistently started in the NFL since 2014 and he struggled early in his career. This leaves us with a one-year relevant sample to evaluate. The counting stats were impressive—Smith was one of four quarterbacks to throw at least 30 touchdowns last season while finishing top 10 in both yards and adjusted yards per attempt.
Some advanced metrics paint a picture of a passer that was a bit more average than counting stats suggest. Smith ranked 16th in SportsInfoSolutions IQR, 11th in PFF passing grade, and had the fifth-highest rate of turnover-worthy plays (PFF).
An underappreciated aspect of Smith’s game is his rushing—he ranked eighth among quarterbacks in rushing attempts and rushing yards last year but scored just one rushing touchdown. Among the 14 quarterbacks with at least 50 rushing attempts in 2022, Smith was one of two to score fewer than three rushing touchdowns.
