Week 8 Winning GPP Lineup Review

In this space each week, I will review the winning lineups from the DraftKings Millionaire Maker and the FanDuel Sunday Million. Analyzing top lineups can help to tease out lineup-building strategies and offer clues on how you could have landed on a similar team.

Cumulative ownership for the winning lineup was 177.2%. It was the second-highest total rostered rate since the beginning of 2019.

Only one other winning Millionaire lineup over the last three-plus seasons was above 160%—that lineup was last week.

The average cumulative ownership of Millionaire winners this season is 120%. From 2019–2021, that number was at 106%.

This was the first Millionaire Maker winner with three wide receivers over 20%. It was also just the second winner with a player over 50%.

Stacks

Stacks Used in DraftKings Millionaire Maker Winning Lineups, 2022
Week Primary Stack Secondary Stack Third Stack Correlated Players
1 QB/TE RB/Opp WR WR/Opp WR 6
2 QB/WR/WR/Opp TE 4
3 QB/TE RB/Opp WR 4
4 QB/WR/WR/Opp RB/Opp WR/Opp TE 6
5 QB/WR RB/WR/TE WR/Opp WR 7
6 QB/WR/Opp RB 3
7 QB/WR/TE RB/Opp RB 5
8 QB/WR/WR RB/DEF WR/TE 7

For the second time in as many weeks, the Millionaire winner stacked a quarterback with two pass-catchers but no bring-back. Five of the eight winners this season have opted for no bring-back with their quarterback stacks.

The seven total correlated players are tied for the highest number of stacked players for a winner this season. Of the last 50 Millionaire winners, 10 have used at least seven correlated players and 13 have used at least three different in-game correlations.

Flex

For the fifth time this year, the winner flexed a wide receiver. The other three have used a third running back.

Top-1% lineups flexed a running back 54% of the time and wide receiver 30% of the time in Week 8. For the field, that ratio was 41%:43%.

Leverage

Raiders-Saints had one of the highest totals on the slate and, in turn, carried quite a bit of ownership. Using an RB-DEF stack helped offset Kamara’s relatively high ownership and leverage against the expected game flow.

Only two teams had a lower cumulative passing game ownership projection than the Jets but they had a favorable matchup against New England's pass-funnel defense, as discussed on last week’s DFS MVP podcast.

AVG 10.1% 25.7% 10.4% 16.8% 10.0% 5.4% 8.8% 5.6% 6.4% 99.1%

The Week 8 Sunday Million winning lineup had cumulative ownership of 197.2%, the highest of any winner dating back to Week 1 of 2019.

Only four other winning lineups in that span were at or above 175%. It was also just the second winner with only one sub-10% player.

Winners have actually been more contrarian than usual on FanDuel this year with the average cumulative ownership of Sunday Million winners at 99%. From 2019–2021 that average was 118%.

6 QB/WR WR/TE 4
7 QB/WR/WR 3
8 RB/WR WR/Opp WR/Opp TE 5

Of the last 43 Sunday Million Winners, this was just the fourth lineup that didn't use a QB stack.

A running back mini-correlation has been used by five of eight winners this year. Over the last two-plus seasons, 72% of Sunday Million winners have used at least one running back mini-stack.

This is only the fourth time since the beginning of 2020 that the Sunday Million winners used a three-player stack that wasn’t a quarterback stack.

Flex

Running backs have dominated the flex on FanDuel this year, showing up in six of eight winning lineups.

Leverage

With such high ownership across the board, the thing that separated this lineup more than anything was that it did not stack the quarterback.
