IDP Waiver Wire: Week 3 Targets
Another week is in the books and there are plenty more stats lines to read over. Be wary of overpaying for defensive lineman right now if your league uses bidding for free agents, as it seems quite shallow at the position right now. However, the linebacker options available are all quite appealing as they're all youngsters with scope for improvement playing three-down roles.
Josey Jewell – Denver Broncos
One of the most important factors for linebackers in IDP leagues is their snap count and through two weeks Josey Jewell has played 119-out-of-119 snaps for the Denver defense. Todd Davis missed his second straight week with a calf injury, leaving Jewell as the teams’ starting ILB and he has capitalized on his opportunity, charting 20 total tackles (10 solo) over the first two weeks of the season.
While Jewell may see his current every-down linebacker role handed to Davis on his return to the line-up, he should maintain an LB3/4 value and playing in just his second season as a pro, offers a little upside as well.
Quincy Williams – Jacksonville Jaguars
Keeping with the same theme – playing time, the Jaguars rookie, Quincy Williams, played 100% of snaps in Week 2 alongside Myles Jack which has piqued my interest. Following the pre-season shock that IDP stud Telvin Smith was taking a year off to “get my world in order,” it has been Williams who has been the direct beneficiary. Manning the WLB spot in his first game as an every-down ‘backer in Week 2, Williams recorded nine total tackles and looks to have locked down the fulltime role moving forward.
The third-round pick out of Murray State had missed time in the pre-season with an injury of his own and with no obvious threat to his role on the defense has the potential to be a solid LB3/4 for the rest of the season.
Note: Last week I recommended both Cole Holcomb and Kyzir White. Both remain high priority pickups if still available.
