Scouting report

MIA WR Jaylen Waddle - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
As the WR2 in one of the best offenses in football, Jaylen Waddle projects significantly better than lots of other WR2's out there. While Waddle may not have the week-to-week ceiling of Tyreek Hill, he's still capable of putting up spiked weeks even when Hill goes off too.

He remains Tua Tagovailoa's second option and would need a Tyreek Hill injury to really outperform his ADP, but for Week 1 he's got a solid matchup. A 49-point total in a close game against the Jaguars is just the type of environment that could see Waddle have a ceiling game as a WR2 on your roster.

MIA WR Jaylen Waddle - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Jaylen Waddle is coming off the board as WR15 on Underdog and 20th overall and has proven before he can be a WR1 in fantasy (thanks to a WR7 finish as a rookie). Waddle finished as WR34 overall and WR23 in points per game. Assuming he doesn't miss two games again he should improve overall.

Fantasy Downside
The downside is Waddle is the WR2 with a high-volume WR1 in Tyreek Hill. While the Miami offense can be a juggernaut, it is tough for both Hill and Waddle to be WR1's in fantasy. A top-12 finish is unlikely without a Hill injury and it seems more likely he'll be a back-end WR2 than a borderline WR1 based on his ADP.

2024 Bottom Line
Waddle seems like a better-in-best-ball pick where you can survive some of his slower weeks and get all the benefit of his spiked weeks. However, 20th overall on Underdog does seem difficult to pay off. He has a much more sensible ADP (45th overall) on a site like ESPN where you don't need to use a second-round pick on him. Given his ADP is all over the place, he's a fade in Round 2 and becomes a buy late in Round 3 or early in Round 4.

MIA WR Jaylen Waddle - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Baltimore Ravens

Jaylen Waddle exited last week's game with what was later called a high ankle injury. Before exiting he caught one pass for 50 yards on four targets. Coach Mike McDaniel said Waddle's injury is "not overly severe" but also added that these injuries are tough. Even if Waddle does play, he doesn't get a great matchup against a good Ravens defense (12th aFPA). Plus he'll likely be limited. His health will be worth monitoring for sure as he could be a game-time decision. If he plays, he'll be in the WR2-WR3 range.

MIA WR Jaylen Waddle - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Dallas Cowboys

With Tyreek Hill out last week, the Dolphins leaned on Jaylen Waddle heavily. Waddle saw nine targets and finished 8-142-1 highlighted by a 60-yard touchdown play. Hill is expected back this week, but we wouldn't worry too much about Waddle's production dipping. Even with Hill in the lineup, Waddle saw eight targets each game from Week 11 through Week 14. Waddle doesn't get a great matchup this week against the Cowboys (8th aFPA), but he should continue to produce like he has been. He'll be a strong WR2 option in Week 16.

MIA WR Jaylen Waddle - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. New York Jets

Jaylen Waddle benefitted last week as Tyreek Hill missed a chunk of the game with an injury. As a result, Waddle finished 6-79 on eight targets. Waddle has now seen exactly eight targets in four straight games. While Hill did return last week, he was obviously limited with an ankle injury. He's still hurt this week and could be limited once again, which might offer a few more opportunities for Waddle. He'll draw a tough matchup vs. the Jets (1st aFPA), but Waddle finished 8-114 vs. the New York just a few weeks ago. Waddle should be viewed as a solid WR2 option for Week 15.

MIA WR Jaylen Waddle - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Tennessee Titans

Jaylen Waddle had a solid game last week, finishing 5-52 on eight targets. The Dolphins took the foot off the gas after the first half, so there wasn't as much production to be had after the early scoring frenzy. Waddle's receptions per game are actually up from last season, but he's averaging about 10 yards less per game compared to 2022. This week, Waddle draws a favorable matchup vs. the Titans (27th aFPA). He should be viewed as a lower-end WR1 option for Week 14, especially in PPR formats.

MIA WR Jaylen Waddle - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Washington Commanders

Jaylen Waddle had a great outing last week, finishing 8-114 on eight targets. This was Waddle's second 100-yard game of the season, both of which came within his last four games. Waddle should continue his high level of production heading into a favorable Week 13 matchup against the Commanders (32nd aFPA). Waddle should be viewed as a strong WR1 play this week.
