Scouting report

JAX RB Travis Etienne - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Houston Texans

It was tough sledding for Travis Etienne against the Jets in Week 16. He saw 22 carries, but could only muster 83 yards on the ground. Etienne caught all three of his targets for 29 yards, giving him 20+ receiving yards in back-to-back games. Etienne managed 12.7 Half PPR points, good for RB15 on the week.

Etienne could not ask for a much better matchup for himself and his fantasy managers in Week 17. The Texans rank 29th in aFPA to running backs, allowing a league-high 2,104 rushing yards to tailbacks this season. Assuming he sees a normal workload, Etienne should be among the top scorers in the running back position this week.

JAX RB Travis Etienne - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at New York Jets

Travis Etienne had his best game for quite some time against the Cowboys in Week 15. He rushed 19 times for 103 yards, his fourth 100-yard game of the season and his first since Week 9. Etienne also caught two passes for another 24 yards on his way to 11.7 Half-PPR points, good for RB18 in that format.

Etienne could be in for a tough night from a fantasy point of view against the Jets in Week 16. Robert Saleh's boys rank sixth in aFPA to running backs this season and have given up the tenth-fewest rushing yards to tailbacks. He's a volume-driven RB2 this week.

JAX RB Travis Etienne - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Dallas Cowboys

Travis Etienne's wretched run of form continued against the Titans in Week 14. Etienne saw 17 carries but gained just 32 yards while failing to draw a single target. Etienne scored a dismal 3.2 Half PPR points, finishing as the RB44 for the week. Since his Week 10 explosion against the Raiders, Etienne is averaging a mere 5.1 Half PPR points per game, and he hasn't caught more than three balls in a game all season.

It's hard to imagine things getting better for Etienne in Week 15 against a stout Cowboys defense. The Cowboys rank seventh in aFPA to running backs this season and have only allowed six rushing scores all season to tailbacks. Etienne is a risky RB2 option this week.

JAX RB Travis Etienne - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Tennessee Titans

Week 13 wasn't a banner week for Travis Etienne in what has been on the whole an encouraging season. He carried the ball 13 times for 54 yards but was held out of the end zone for the third game in a row. Etienne caught all three of his targets for another 12 yards but lost a fumble on his way to 6.1 Half PPR points, finishing as the RB39. Etienne hasn't caught more than three passes in a game all season and hasn't amassed more than 28 receiving yards since Week 6.

Etienne has a tough matchup against the Titans this week, a team sturdier against the run than the pass. The Titans have allowed the second-fewest rushing yards to running backs all season, and rank fifth in aFPA to the position. Without a notable receiving string to his bow, it's tough to rank Etienne any higher than a mid-tier RB2 this week.

JAX RB Travis Etienne - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Detroit Lions

Travis Etienne played just five snaps against the Ravens in Week 12 before suffering a foot injury. He handled two rushing attempts for three yards before sitting out the rest of the game.

Assuming he is good to go this week and accepts his usual workload, Etienne faces a tough test against the Lions. The Lions rank eighth in aFPA to running backs this season, although they are fourth with 12 rushing scores allowed to the position. JaMycal Hasty's form as a receiver last week could cap Etienne's pass-catching ceiling too, so it's best to project Etienne as a high-end RB2 this week.

JAX RB Travis Etienne - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Baltimore Ravens

After a stunning run of form in the weeks leading up to Week 10, Travis Etienne suffered something of a blip against the Chiefs. He was limited to just 11 rush attempts, although he still managed 45 yards, and his three receptions brought just 28 receiving yards. Etienne managed a mere 8.8 Half PPR points and finished as the RB28 for the week.

It won't be easy for Etienne to return to form in Week 12 against a stout Ravens defense. The Ravens rank fifth in aFPA to running backs this season while giving up the fourth fewest rushing yards to the position. Still, Etienne's workload should keep him busy and fantasy relevant, although a low-end RB1 is probably the best we can project for him.

JAX RB Travis Etienne - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Kansas City Chiefs

Travis Etienne continued his fine run of form against the Raiders in Week 9. Etienne set a career-high with 28 rushing attempts, earning 109 yards and scoring twice on the ground. Etienne has rushed for 100+ yards in three straight games and has four touchdowns in that span. He also caught both of his targets for 17 yards on his way to 25.6 Half PPR points. Etienne finished as the RB3 last week.

There is absolutely no reason to expect the good times to end for Etienne in Week 10. The Chiefs rank 25th in aFPA to running backs this season. Etienne should once again post RB1 numbers this week.
