Scouting report

JAX RB Travis Etienne - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
With their second first-round pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jaguars went back to the Clemson well, landing Travis Etienne with the 25th overall pick. Pairing Trevor Lawrence, their choice at No. 1 overall, with Etienne marked the first time in the Common Draft era that a QB and RB from the same school were selected in the first round of the same draft by the same team. A home-run hitter, Etienne is the draft's best pass-catching back, but he can also run. Etienne had 2,571 rush yards after contact over the last three seasons (most in FBS), per Pro Football Focus. He also forced 187 missed tackles on rushes over the previous three seasons (most in FBS). The speedy Etienne is a perfect outlet for Lawrence and can excel in the screen game.

Fantasy Downside
Etienne pairs well with undrafted rookie running back James Robinson, who shined last year as a between-the-tackles runner. That timeshare adds a layer of uncertainty to the roles of both backs.

2021 Bottom Line
The Etienne-Robinson duo can both break tackles on the second level, which should help quickly turn around the Jags' offense. Incoming coach Urban Meyer called Etienne a "matchup issue" who can help the team as a runner and a receiver. His relationship with Lawrence may help him get a few more looks in the latter role once the team hits the field this year. But more to the point, Etienne has something Robinson doesn't: The ability to take it the house from anywhere on the field.
