Scouting report

HOU QB T.J. Yates - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Indianapolis Colts

After briefly leaving last Monday’s game against the Steelers due to a head injury, T.J. Yates returned to action and threw a TD toss to DeAndre Hopkins. In the blowout loss, he was just 7-of-16 for 83 yards and was sacked 6 times. While he’s tossed for 4 touchdowns during the past three weeks, Yates has not eclipsed 200 yards during that stretch. There is no reason to start at Indianapolis this week, especially without Hopkins to throw to.

HOU QB T.J. Yates - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

As expected, T.J. Yates had all kinds of problems against a solid Jacksonville defense last Sunday. Yates finished just 12-of-31 for 128 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception. He was also sacked 4 times. Of his 31 attempts, 13 went in the direction of DeAndre Hopkins and he only completed passes to four pass-catchers. Yates will again be under center on Christmas afternoon against another solid pass defense in the Steelers. Sure, he’ll have Hopkins to throw to, but there is no reason for Yates to be your fantasy playoff QB.

HOU QB T.J. Yates - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Jacksonville Jaguars

Filling in for the concussed Tom Savage last week, T.J. Yates came in and tossed 2 TDs to, who else, DeAndre Hopkins. Yates threw for 175 and ran for another 31 yards in the loss. The 30-year-old veteran backup is in line to get his first start of the season, but will do so on the road against the league’s top pass defense allowing less than 175 yards per game through the air. Even with Hopkins to throw to, there has to be better QB options for you to start than Yates.

HOU QB T.J. Yates - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Indianapolis
For the second time this season, T.J. Yates will start for the Texans in place of a concussed Brian Hoyer. Last week against the Patriots with the game out of hand, T.J. threw two passes for four yards. In his only start of ’15, against the Jets, he went 16-of-34 for 229 yards and two TDs - both to DeAndre Hopkins. The Colts allowed four total scores to Blake Bortles last week and in Week 5, Hoyer replaced an injured Ryan Mallett and threw for 312 yards and two TDs against Indy. However, you have to be in deep need of a QB to entrust Yates as your playoff fantasy QB.

HOU QB T.J. Yates - Week 11, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. New York Jets
It wasn’t pretty, but T.J. Yates rallied the Texans to a win over the Bengals last Monday night. Filling in for the concussed Brian Hoyer, T.J. threw for 69 yards on 11 pass attempts, including the game-winning TD toss to, who else, DeAndre Hopkins. Yates had some success with Houston a couple years ago and has one of the best WRs in the games to throw to in Hopkins. However, there has to be better options for your fantasy QB, especially facing a Jets defense that is No. 9 versus the pass.
