WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Denver Broncos

Terry McLaurin's playing time wasn't affected by his pre-season injury. He played on 89% of the offensive snaps, which was the most out of any non QB or offensive lineman. The production wasn't really there, though, as McLaurin finished 2-31 on four targets. Three other options for Washington saw more targets than McLaurin in Week 1. Things won't get much easier in Week 2 as McLaurin faces the Broncos. Denver gave up the 4th-fewest fantasy points to WRs last season. McLaurin should be viewed as a low-end WR2 option for Week 2.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Terry McLaurin set a career high in receiving yards last year (1,191) despite playing with three different quarterbacks. We did like him as a value play in the draft given his ADP, but a preseason turf toe injury hurt those projections. CBS Sports reports the team is "optimistic" McLaurin will play in Week 1, but a turf toe can be a nagging injury that may limit McLaurin. The matchup itself against the Cardinals is a decent one. They technically didn't allow many fantasy points to WRs last season, but part of that is because of their poor run defense. McLaurin should be viewed more in WR3 range in Week 1 due to his injury.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Terry McLaurin has remained pretty consistent despite the carousel of quarterbacks in Washington throughout his tenure. McLaurin has finished with at least 120 targets, 70 receptions and 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons. McLaurin only played one game with projected starting QB Sam Howell last season, but it was a good one as the WR finished with three catches, 74 yards and a touchdown on 31% target share. With no major changes to the WR corps in the offseason, McLaurin is in line to finish with another 1,000-yard season.

Fantasy Downside
While the one game McLaurin had with Howell was promising, it was just one game. We haven’t fully seen what Howell can do throughout an entire season. Since Howell is new, Washington may continue to be a run-focused team like they were last season when they were fourth in the league in total rush attempts. Washington also has a solid WR group with Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel. McLaurin has also never been much of a scoring threat, failing to surpass five receiving touchdowns in three straight seasons.

2023 Bottom Line
McLaurin is a fairly safe option when it comes to fantasy. He’s a very talented receiver who has just found a way to consistently put up production despite some ugly situations in Washington. We’re projecting him to finish with yet another 1,000-yard season as his stats will likely look the same to what he’s done since joining the league. Washington brought in OC Eric Bieniemy in the offseason, so there’s a chance we could see something different this year, but overall McLaurin is a safe choice. With his current ADP, he’s someone to target in redraft leagues.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Cleveland Browns

Terry McLaurin had a solid outing last week, finishing 4-77-1 on five targets. Things will be different this week, though, as Carson Wentz returns at QB. McLaurin played better with Taylor Heinicke this season. In the nine games with Heinicke, McLaurin averaged 5.6 receptions for 80.6 yards. In the six games with Wentz, McLaurin averaged 3.7 receptions for 61.2 yards. Not bad, but it's a notable difference. Still, McLaurin is a top-tier talent and he should be fine with Wentz. The bigger concern is a tough Browns (4th aFPA) matchup this week. McLaurin should be viewed as a mid-tier WR2 option in Week 17.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at San Francisco 49ers

Terry McLaurin had a decent game last week, finishing 6-70 on six targets. McLaurin has now finished with at least 70 receiving yards in five of his last eight games, which is notable because Taylor Heinicke took over at QB eight games ago. McLaurin should continue to see the same level of production as he gets an OK matchup vs. the 49ers (19th aFPA) this week. He should be viewed as a solid WR2 option for Week 16.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. New York Giants

Terry McLaurin had a great game in Week 13 as he led Washington in targets (12), finishing 8-105-1. McLaurin has seen a solid increase in production ever since Washington switched to Taylor Heinicke at QB. In the six games with Carson Wentz, McLaurin averaged 3.7 receptions for 61.2 yards. In the seven games with Heinicke, McLaurin has averaged 5.7 receptions for 82.6 yards. We'd expect another solid game from McLaurin this week considering he plays his Week 13 opponent again in the Giants. He should be viewed as a solid WR1 option for Week 15.

WAS WR Terry McLaurin - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at New York Giants

Terry McLaurin led Washington players in targets (6) last week, finishing 4-48 while rushing once for five yards. It wasn't a great game for McLaurin, but Washington's passing attack as a whole wasn't that productive with 14 completions and 138 pass yards. McLaurin could struggle to find production again this week as he gets a tough matchup against a Giants defense that's allowed the fourth-fewest average fantasy points to wide receivers. While it's not a great matchup, McLaurin has been solid all year, and should still be viewed as a high-end WR2 option this week.
