Falcons Beat: Jacquizz Rodgers will 'likely get the bulk of the carries' vs. Panthers

Falcons RBs Devonta Freeman and Jacquizz Rodgers took over against the New Orleans Saints after Steven Jackson left the game with a quadriceps injury. Freeman, a fourth-round pick from Florida State, provided some big plays, including a 31-yard touchdown run.

Rodgers will likely get the bulk of the carries because he’s still considered a better pass protector.

Fantasy Impact: 

Freeman has been significantly better but admits that he's not good enough in pass protection. Rodgers may start, but we expect that Freeman will get enough touches to make him a worthwhile play in daily formats.

Falcons RB Steven Jackson (quadricep, questionable) missed practice all week and is questionable for Week 17. Jackson is not expected to play against Carolina. Look for Devonta Freeman and Jacquizz Rodgers to form a committee. Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Rodgers is expected to get the start, but Freeman has far more upside. He turned eight touches into 84 yards and a touchdown last week after Jackson left with an injury.

Falcons coach Mike Smith said Monday that RB Steven Jackson was having further tests done to evaluate the injury, which means we’ll be waiting until later in the week for an idea about whether or not he’ll play against Carolina.

Devonta Freeman was the most effective back in New Orleans, running five times for 36 yards and a touchdown and catching three passes for 48 more yards.

Fantasy Impact: 

Early reports after the game said the injury wasn't all that serious and Jackson could be available for Week 17. For now, that remains up in the air. Jacquizz Rodgers got a bulk of the carries but Freeman has more fantasy potential.

Falcons RB Steven Jackson has a quad injury and did not return to the game.

Fantasy Impact: 

An ESPN report on Monday said the Falcons don't believe the injury is serious and that Jackson will play in Week 17. Jacquizz Rodgers had 11 carries but collected just 29 yards. Devonte Freeman ran for a 5-36-1 line and added three catches for 48 yards. The Falcons play for the NFC South title against the Panthers next week. If Jackson can't go Freeman and Rodgers would likely split up the workload with Freeman having more upside.
