Scouting report

NYG WR Rueben Randle - Week 3, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Washington
Rueben Randle had another poor showing last week against a vulnerable Falcons defense. He was targeted only twice all game and finished with one catch for five yards. Randle has failed to produce while filling in for the injured Victor Cruz, and thought he remains a starter in the offense, it’s hard to trust him to put up any kind of consistent fantasy numbers when running backs and tight ends on the team get a combined total of 20 targets and Randle only gets two. He can probably stay on most fantasy rosters, but should remain on the bench until he shows some consistent week-to-week production.

NYG WR Rueben Randle - Week 2, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Atlanta

Rueben Randle had just 23 receiving yards last week against the Cowboys, but he caught three passes on five targets and remains the starter opposite Odell Beckham Jr. for at least as long as Victor Cruz is nursing an injury.

Randle faces a Falcons defense that gave up 336 passing yards a week ago to the Eagles, mostly in the second half. Randle hassome upside in deep leagues, but for the most part, his inconsistency makes him far too risky for most fantasy owners to consider him. Leave him on the bench if you can.

NYG WR Rueben Randle - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Dallas

Rueben Randle has been an inconsistent option for fantasy owners and for the Giants receiving corps over the past couple of seasons, but he remains a key figure in the passing game as the WR2 with Victor Cruz out this week.

Randle will face a potentially difficult opponent in the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, who picked off 18 passes a year ago and have added rookie pass rusher Randy Gregory to the DL. Randle will get some targets thrown his way, and his value is heightened with the absence of Cruz, but his inconsistency keeps him from being any more than a borderline WR3 option in most leagues.

NYG WR Rueben Randle - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Rueben Randle had about as up and down a season as you can have at the wide receiver position in 2014. He finished the season with 12 catches and nearly 300 yards in the last two games, but was benched twice throughout the year due to inconsistency and wound up with season totals of 938 yards and only three touchdowns. The Giants will hope that Randle can be an outside threat this year, complementing Victor Cruz and last year’s rookie sensation Odell Beckham Jr.

Fantasy Upside
The Giants have been able to support three fantasy receivers before, and Randle did set a career high with 71 catches last season. Randle has good size and can get downfield, flashing WR1 ability at times. He also provides a different skill set than Cruz and Beckham Jr. on the Giants’ roster, which should give him the opportunity to remain in the lineup.

Fantasy Downside
Randle was woefully inconsistent last year, and if the Giants get more of the same from him in 2015, it’s very likely he’ll find himself benched again. Additionally, he played with an injured Beckham Jr. early in the season and an injured Cruz during the latter part of the year, so targets will be lessened with all three guys in the lineup. The Giants also still have hopes for Corey Washington, which might shorten Randle’s leash if he gets a case of the dropsies early in the season.

Bottom Line
This is likely a pivotal season in Randle’s career. Entering his fourth year in the league, he has shown just enough to peak interest, while still leaving a lot of questions about his potential unanswered. Fantasy owners should consider him a risky bet as a bench WR with the upside to pan out, but he’s not someone that owners should count on for consistent production as an immediate fantasy starter.

NYG WR Rueben Randle - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Rueben Randle vs. Philadelphia

Rueben Randle had a nice game last week, catching all six passes thrown his way for 132 yards and a touchdown, despite facing a formidable Rams defense. Randle has been off key with Eli Manning all season, but showed signs in this game of the guy we all expected to break out this year.

Randle has upside this week to repeat his performance against a vulnerable Philly pass defense that ranks 25th in the league. However, he’s very risky because of his struggles all season, and fantasy owners should consider him a risky low-end WR2 at best.

NYG WR Rueben Randle - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Rueben Randle vs. St. Louis
Rueben Randle had only two catches for 30 yards last week against Washington and was targeted only four times. He wasn’t in the starting lineup and was on the sidelines for the entire first quarter. Randle has been a big disappointment for the Giants and for fantasy owners this season, and with rookie Odell Beckham hogging up nearly half the targets last week and putting up phenomenal numbers week-in and week-out, it seems unlikely that Randle will suddenly deliver on the upside he entered the season with. Randle has been benched for the first quarter of the last two games. Leave him on your bench if you're still rostering him.

This week especially, Randle faces a St. Louis Rams pass defense that ranks third in the league in passing touchdowns allowed and there’s no reason to think he’ll put up big numbers for fantasy owners. He should remain on fantasy benches in all leagues.

NYG WR Rueben Randle - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Rueben Randle vs. Washington
Rueben Randle had only one catch last week and was targeted a mere three times as the Giants blew out the Titans. Randle has struggled all season, and it seems a tall order to expect him to suddenly turn the corner now. He’s still technically a starter on the outside, so he has upside against the Washington pass defense that has allowed 28 touchdown passes so far this season, but he’s such a long shot to do well that fantasy owners are likely better off just dropping him.
