Scouting report

by Steve Andress

IND RB Robert Turbin - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Jacksonville
Turbin rushed for a touchdown last week, but he's not an option for your lineups as he's averaging less than three carries per game.

IND RB Robert Turbin - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Robert Turbin has only played 17% of the snaps through two weeks. He is not an option for your fantasy lineups.

IND RB Robert Turbin - Week 1, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Detroit
Robert Turbin is nothing more than Frank Gore's handcuff (for the moment). He does not present fantasy value as long as Gore is healthy. He should not be anywhere near your starting lineups.

IND RB Robert Turbin - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Turbin’s upside only comes with an injury to Frank Gore and winning the back-up job in training camp over Josh Ferguson, Tyler Varga, and Jordan Todman. He flashed a few games last season with limited carries, with four games rushing for more than five yards per carry, but he’s strictly a potential handcuff entering 2016.

Fantasy Downside
Turbin was cited for marijuana possession July 8th during a traffic stop. It was only a marijuana butt in the center console, and Turbin wasn’t impaired and was allowed to drive off, but NFL rules may not care about such things. The court process is yet to play out, but marijuana is a banned substance in the NFL, and the punishment through the league for a first offense is suspension without pay for up to four regular or post-season games. Add this to a question of whether Turbin will even make the 53-man roster.

Bottom Line
Turbin is not a player you should be drafting in 2016, unless he wins the back-up role in Indianapolis and Frank Gore gets hurt. Even then, we don’t know if the back-up RB with the COlts would get Gore’s share of touches if he went down.

DAL RB Robert Turbin - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs New York Jets
Robert Turbin propelled himself into the fantasy picture with seven carries including a touchdown against Green Bay last week. The running back situation in Dallas has been volatile all season, but it appears Turbin will now be the one who backs up Darren McFadden and gets meaningful carries for the Cowboys. Although he has some fantasy relevance, it is not enough right now to get him in your starting lineup. Keep Turbin on the bench for Week 15.

CLE RB Robert Turbin - Week 9, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Cincinnati
One team that does a very good job with personnel moves is the Seattle Seahawks. One team that does a very poor job with personnel moves is the Cleveland Browns. Seattle decided they had no further use for Robert Turbin, who then landed in Cleveland. When the Browns lost to Arizona on Sunday, Turbin had three carries for three yards. On the season, Turbin has gained 60 yards on 18 carries. Fantasy owners should continue to emulate the Seahawks (and not the Browns) and leave Robert on the waiver wire.

CLE RB Robert Turbin - Week 8, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Arizona

Despite getting fewer carries than Duke Johnson and Isaiah Crowell, Robert Turbin led the Browns in rushing last Sunday. However, if there was a TV show title you could apply to Turbin’s performance, it would be Curb Your Enthusiasm. Turbin rushed for only 30 yards, with that total inflated by a 22-yard run.

Turbin, who was solid but not special in Seattle when he spelled Marshawn Lynch, is probably the least viable of Cleveland’s three-headed backfield. While his progress should be monitored in case one of his tag team partners is injured or angers Cleveland head coach Mike Pettine, it would be hard to justify giving him a roster spot at the moment.
