Scouting report

WAS WR Paul Richardson - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Indianapolis Colts

In Las Vegas this week, only the Steelers, Saints and Rams have a higher implied team total than the Redskins, illustrating confidence in this offense against a poor Colts defense (25th in aFPA to WRs last year). The Colts allowed two touchdowns to receivers last week. However, a healthy Jordan Reed makes it hard for Washington receivers to break out in fantasy. Only 13 of Alex Smith's 29 passes went to receivers last week—six to Richardson. Every Washington receiver averaged less than six targets per game in weeks Jordan Reed played a full game last year. For these reasons, Richardson is too risky to start.

WAS WR Paul Richardson - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Arizona Cardinals

If Washington's best receiver last year, Jamison Crowder, was only the WR51 in PPR leagues when TE Jordan Reed was healthy, how can you start any other receiver in this offense in Week 1? This game is expected to be competitive but also low scoring. It has the sixth-lowest over/under in Vegas for Week 1. This adds up to Richardson being a dart not worth throwing in Week 1.

WAS WR Paul Richardson - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Reports out of camp are that Richardson is getting stronger every day, after signing a big contract with Washington and leaving Seattle. He has given Jay Gruden a deep threat that was lacking with the nightmare that was Terrelle Pryor last season. Comparisons out of camp are to former Washington wideout DeSean Jackson. That's high praise.

Fantasy Downside

Jordan Reed appears to be healthy this preseason and when he's healthy the other receivers get far fewer targets in this offense. No receiver saw six targets per game when Reed was on the field last season.

2018 Bottom Line

Richardson is a wild card late-round pick that has boom-or-bust potential which is attractive for a best-ball pick at his ADP. In redraft leagues, however, he's likely to be a weekly headache. He's a deep sleeper in those formats.

SEA WR Paul Richardson - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Arizona Cardinals

Paul Richardson has recorded 25 yards or less in three of his last four games. The Seahawks' passing game has struggled the last two weeks so that's part of the issue, but Richardson still hasn't been involved all that much.

The Seahawks face the Cardinals this week, who are ranked first in aFPA vs. wide receivers. We don't like this matchup for Richardson, so keep him on the bench.

SEA WR Paul Richardson - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Dallas Cowboys

The targets are there for Paul Richardson, even more than No. 1 receiver Doug Baldwin. But the production for Richardson has been limited. He has 7 receptions in the last three games and last week he only had 18 receiving yards.

Richardson will face the Cowboys this week, who are ranked 24th in aFPA to wide receivers. The Seattle offense should bounce back after an awful game against the Rams, but we feel Richardson is not a strong enough play this week even with a favorable matchup. Keep him on the bench for Week 16.

SEA WR Paul Richardson - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Paul Richardson only caught 3 passes last week against the Jags, but they went for 72 yards and touchdown, which made him a good fantasy play in Week 14. He has been pretty steady for several weeks now as the No. 2 WR in Seattle's offense, but it might be tougher this Sunday.

Richardson will face a Rams defense ranked fourth in aFPA to wide receivers. In the first meeting with Los Angeles, he was held to th3ee catches for 35 yards. The numbers might be better this time around at home, but not enough to warrant a fantasy start. We don't like the matchup so keep Richardson on the bench.

SEA WR Paul Richardson - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Jacksonville Jaguars

Paul Richardson only had 2 receptions last week for 8 yards—don't expect more in Week 14. He will face a Jacksonville defense ranked first in aFPA to wide receivers. Richardson should not be in your fantasy lineups this Sunday as the Seattle passing game success will be limited. If anyone benefits, it will be Doug Baldwin or Jimmy Graham.
