MIA RB Myles Gaskin - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Buffalo Bills

Myles Gaskin was the primary running back for Miami, but it's clear his touches will be somewhat limited moving forward. Gaskin finished with nine carries compared to five for Malcolm Brown and three for Salvon Ahmed. Even backup QB Jacoby Brissett had two carries. But Gaskin had a solid role as a receiver, converting all five of his targets into five receptions for 27 yards, giving Gaskin 76 scrimmage yards. Gaskin draws a tough matchup against the Bills this week, who gave up just 45 rushing yards to Najee Harris in Week 1 on 16 carries (2.8 ypc). Gaskin should be viewed as a mid-range RB2 play in Week 2 vs. Buffalo.

MIA RB Myles Gaskin - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at New England Patriots

Myles Gaskin came on strong last year as a result of other injuries at the running back position in Miami. But Gaskin took advantage of his opportunity, and he enters 2021 as the primary back in Miami. He'll draw a solid Week 1 matchup against the Patriots, who allowed the seventh-most rushing yards a season ago. Gaskin only faced the Patriots once last year, but it was in Week 1 before he became the main guy. He still played well, finishing with 66 yards on 13 touches. He should get more touches in this game, and we like him as a lower-end RB2 or strong RB3/flex play.

MIA RB Myles Gaskin - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Myles Gaskin came out of nowhere to lead Miami’s backfield last season. He had the 10th-highest fantasy points per game of running backs to play in at least five games, averaging 14.4 points in half-PPR. The shocking part of Gaskin’s season was his volume, as he averaged over 18 touches per game. He was effective on the ground, and as a receiver out of the backfield (4.1 receptions per game). He turned his touches into production, finishing with 97.2 scrimmage yards per game.

Fantasy Downside
The Dolphins didn’t have much depth behind Gaskin last year, which is what helped lead to his high amount of touches. This year, Miami brought in Malcolm Brown, who is coming off of a 581-yard season with the Rams. The Dolphins also upped their passing attack, adding weapons in Will Fuller and Jaylen Waddle. Gaskin also missed six games last season, four due to injury and two while on the COVID list.

2021 Bottom Line
We’re projecting around four fewer touches per game this year compared to last for Gaskin. Brown’s arrival will make somewhat of an impact, but it certainly won’t be too much cause for concern. Gaskin should be leaned on again as the top player in this backfield, and his involvement in the passing game makes him a nice option for PPR-friendly leagues. We’re projecting over 1,100 scrimmage yards for Gaskin, placing him in the top 25 running backs (half-PPR).

MIA RB Myles Gaskin - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Buffalo Bills

The first game with Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed in the lineup together cleared up who Miami prefers, and it's Gaskin. Gaskin received 19 touches compared to Ahmed's seven, and played on 76% of the snaps compared to Ahmed's 24%. Gaskin was highly productive, finishing with 87 yards on 14 carries, and going 5-82-2 as a receiver. In his last seven games, Gaskin is averaging over 20 touches while producing 106.7 scrimmage yards. Expect another solid game from Gaskin this week as Miami will lean on him heavily in a must-win game to enter the playoffs. Gaskin can be viewed as a must-start RB1 in Week 17.

MIA RB Myles Gaskin - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Las Vegas Raiders

For the first time this season, we'll finally see what the Dolphins will do when Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed are healthy at the same time. Ahmed has played in Week 9, 10, 11 and 15. Gaskin (recently) has played Week 8 and 13. Both have had success as Miami's lead back, but they've never had to share the backfield with each other. One of them, or potentially both of them, should have success this week as it's a favorable matchup against the Raiders (No. 26 aFPA). The Raiders are tied with allowing the most rushing touchdowns to running backs (18) this season. We like Gaskin slightly more than Ahmed, although both should be viable flex options in Week 16.

MIA RB Myles Gaskin - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Myles Gaskin returned to the lineup last week as Miami's backfield became a mess due to injuries. Gaskin had a great outing, finishing with 141 scrimmage yards. Gaskin is a touch-heavy option, averaging 21.2 touches in his last six games. Any time a back is getting that much volume, they're going to produce something. Gaskin gets a favorable matchup against the Chiefs this week, who have given up the sixth-most rushing yards to backs this season. With the solid matchup, and Gaskin's production so far, he can be viewed as a lower-end RB1 or a strong RB2 play in Week 14.

MIA RB Myles Gaskin - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Myles Gaskin had his best game of the season last week, totaling 126 scrimmage yards. Gaskin has been really solid this season, seeing an average of 18.2 touches per game. He's provided a nice floor, especially as a receiver, averaging 4.5 receptions and 30.3 receiving yards per game. The two downsides to Gaskin is he doesn't have explosive games (just one game over 100 total yards) and he doesn't score many touchdowns (one on the season). But Gaskin is a high-floor player, and there's incredible value in that for fantasy. He may not have many huge games, but he hasn't really had a "bad" game all year. Gaskin should be viewed as a strong RB2 this week against the Rams. The Rams are about middle-of-the-road when it comes to stopping running backs, placing No. 15 in aFPA.
