JAX WR Marvin Jones - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Marvin Jones was behind Christian Kirk and Zay Jones in the target pecking order in Week 1, seeing just six targets in the loss to Washington. Jones caught four of his looks for 38 yards and zero touchdowns, giving him 5.8 fantasy points in Half PPR formats. This total gave him WR59 honors for Week 1.

The Colts allowed the Texans wide receivers to combine for 12 receptions and 139 yards last week, but managed to hold them out of the end zone. The third wide receiver on this offense is not a role that looks likely to deliver a chunk of fantasy value, and Jones is not a player you need to start this week unless you are absolutely ravaged at the WR spots.

JAX WR Marvin Jones - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Washington Commanders

Given the dysfunctional nature of the offense, we should be looking at the 2021 Marvin Jones performance and marveling at how productive he actually was. Jones caught 73 passes (three short of tying his career high) for 832 yards and scored four touchdowns through the air. He only averaged 8.5 fantasy points in Half PPR scoring, posting a solitary WR1 week and finishing as the WR34 across the season.

The Commanders ranked 30th in aFPA allowed to wide receivers last season, so on paper, this would seem to be something of a decent matchup. The Jaguars are something of a mystery on offense at present, however, and with the new offense and added competition for targets, it's hard to get too excited about Jones at this stage of the season. He is projected for a WR5 week to start his season.

JAX WR Marvin Jones - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 @ New York Jets
Marvin Jones continues to operate as the top pass catcher in Jacksonville, but that role is generally unproductive as the Jaguar passing offense has been abysmal all year. After managing a 70-yard day in Week 14, Jones plummeted back down to earth in Darrell Bevell's debut as interim Head Coach with a 2-14-0 line. The volatile production of the last two weeks is the best-case scenario for any player catching passes from Trevor Lawrence this season, as he has gone on extended stretches of very little passing production whatsoever. Jones and all of the Jaguars get a favorable matchup against the Jets' awful defense in Week 16, but he still has an exceedingly low floor and is a high-risk flex play at best.

JAX WR Marvin Jones - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Houston Texans

Marvin Jones showed some small signs of life in Week 14 with a 6-70-0 line against the Titans. While it might be tempting to think Jones is on the upswing, Trevor Lawrence still only threw for 221 yards without a score in a game where the Jags were dominated. With the Jaguars offense playing as poorly as it currently is, Jones's floor is rock bottom despite the useable performance last week. He can be started in a soft matchup against Houston if you're truly desperate, but he is best kept on the bench as this offense should be avoided wherever possible for fantasy purposes.

JAX WR Marvin Jones - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Tennessee Titans

Marvin Jones turned in a paltry 2-11-0 line in Week 13, continuing a brutal drought of production where he has not reached 60 yards or scored a touchdown in well over a month. Jones has actually seen a concerning drop in usage with the emergence of Laquon Treadwell in the passing game. While the Titans do not pose a particularly difficult matchup for offenses, Jones is simply not seeing enough usage to warrant fantasy consideration, especially in the league's worst passing offense. Keep Jones on the bench in Week 14.

JAX WR Marvin Jones - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Los Angeles Rams

Marvin Jones is one of the top options in Jacksonville, which means he's one of the top options in the worst passing offense in football. Jones will occasionally post a decent line based on sheer volume or finding the endzone, but there is no pass catcher that is a safe start in this offensive situation. Jones, like the rest of the Jaguar passing game, should be left on the bench for Week 13 and likely the rest of the season.

JAX WR Marvin Jones - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Atlanta Falcons
Marvin Jones remains the top option in the Jacksonville passing game but unfortunately for him, that particular unit doesn't offer much fantasy value. The Jaguars struggle to pass the ball at an extreme level and Jones's fantasy outlook is almost entirely touchdown dependent at this point. Relying on touchdowns in an offense that has only managed to score eight of them through the air all season is not a recipe for fantasy viability. It's impossible to recommend starting any Jaguar in fantasy outside of RB James Robinson and potentially TE Dan Arnold.
