Scouting report

BUF WR John Brown - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. New York Jets
John Brown was the leading receiver for Buffalo in 2019. His role will change with the acquisition of Stefon Diggs, but expect him to still receiver targets with lots of crossing and underneath routes.

It's a good matchup for Buffalo as the Jets were 28th in aFPA to wide receivers last season. This bodes will for all the Bills skill players.

The biggest issue for the Brown and the Bills wide receivers is how much will Josh Allen be allowed to grow in the passing game. That question pushes Brown to the bench for Week 1 although he is a borderline WR3 in PPR leagues.

BUF WR John Brown - 2020 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
John Brown proved he is still a legit NFL veteran receiver last season at age 29 with career highs in catches and receiving yardage. It was his best season since 2015 and he showed he can be a fantasy factor as well. Brown will still be a main target for an improving quarterback in Josh Allen.

Fantasy Downside
The Bills brought over Stefan Diggs from Minnesota to be the No. 1 receiver. Brown will lose some targets and catches so this will be a blow to his fantasy value. He is still a capable receiver but Allen has many more options in 2020.

2020 Botto Line
Allen was quoted that he thinks Brown will have similar numbers this season because Diggs will draw more coverage on the other side. We aren't quite buying that. Brown is a borderline WR3 heading into the season and his ADP is 147 and WR43. We think he has more value than that and can be drafted higher. It will be especially a good move if he is the fourth receiver drafted for your team.

BUF WR John Brown - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs New York Jets
John Brown only had one reception last week but it went for 53 yards and a touchdown. He has 72 receptions for 1,060 yards which would have surprised most at the beginning of the season.

The Jets are up next and it is a great matchup for Brown as New York is ranked 28th in aFPA to wide receivers. However, we don't expect a full workload for him as Buffalo is locked in the No. 5 seed and will have a playoff game Week 8. Keep Brown on the bench for Week 17.

BUF WR John Brown - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at New England
It was a pretty good game for John Brown against a good Steelers defense. He had seven receptions for 99 yards. Brown continues to be the most targeted Bills receiver, but the passing game has continued to be conservative.

Brown will face New England who is ranked first in aFPA to wide receivers. It will be a tough game for Buffalo in general. That should limit his number and pushes him to the bench for Week 16.

BUF WR John Brown - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Pittsburgh
John Brown has been quiet the last three weeks with only eight receptions for 91 yards during that span. It would be decent numbers if we had not seen better from him for most of the season that has him playing as the Bills No. 1 receiver. The good news was the targets were back up to eight this week, but QB Josh Allen could not connect with him

Brown plays against the Steelers this week and Pittsburgh is ranked 12th in aFPA to wide receivers. We don't expect a breakout game this week so similar numbers would push him to a WR3 ranking for Week 15.

BUF WR John Brown - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs Baltimore
John Brown has been quiet the last two games with five catches for 65 yards. Buffalo has been relying more on the run and game plans have been conservative in recent weeks. Brown is still QB Josh Allen's favorite target in the passing game.

It won't be easy this week as the Ravens come to town. Baltimore is ranked 9th in aFPA to wide receivers. Expect another conservative game plan for the Bills and a defensive battle. That ranks Brown as a high-end WR3 or flex for Week 14.

BUF WR John Brown - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Dallas
John Brown had a quiet fantasy outing last Sunday with only two catches for 39 yards, but he did have a touchdown reception. Brown now has three touchdown receptions in the last two games.

Brown plays against Dallas next who is 5th in aFPA to wide receivers. Even with the unfavorable matchup, Brown has been a consistent target for QB Josh Allen. Start Brown as a high-end WR2 for Thanksgiving day. Even with the Cowboys better against the pass, the Bills will still try to get the ball to Brown.
