DET RB Jahmyr Gibbs - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Lions have a very good problem with two high-level running backs on their team, but it is a little bit of a nuisance for fantasy. Even if Montgomery were out of the way, Gibbs isn't likely to receive 70%+ of his team's carries, but if it were a lesser teammate, it would certainly be far higher than last year's 40%. Regardless, Gibbs has a good enough floor to be considered an RB1 and will put up gaudy numbers if his teammate misses any time this season.

DET RB Jahmyr Gibbs - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Jahmyr Gibbs more than paid off as a fantasy asset as a rookie on a per-game basis, particularly in the receiving game. His 69 targets were tied for seventh-highest with Austin Ekeler, while his 52 receptions tied for ninth-highest with Joe Mixon and Tyjae Spears. There's not much reason to think those numbers will fall off, as the Lions passed on the WR position in the NFL Draft while allowing Josh Reynolds to walk in free agency. His rushing totals could also go up after he only logged 40.6% of the team's attempts to David Montgomery's 53.2%. His RB11 finish in Year 1 may very well be his floor in this offense.

Fantasy Downside
David Montgomery is still in town, looks like he'll reprise the goal-line role (19 attempts from within the opponent's five-yard line), and is, well, good at football. In the three games Gibbs played without Montgomery, he averaged 19.7 half-PPR points, 18 rush attempts, and 100 yards on the ground. In the 12 other games, Gibbs averaged 10.7 attempts, 53.8 yards, and 13.1 PPG. Admittedly, those are still good numbers, but his lofty ceiling is going to remain somewhat capped as long as Montgomery is still performing at his high level of play.

2024 Bottom Line
The Lions have a very good problem with two high-level running backs on their team, but it is a little bit of a nuisance for fantasy. Even if Montgomery were out of the way, Gibbs isn't likely to receive 70%+ of his team's carries, but if it were a lesser teammate, it would certainly be far higher than last year's 40%. Regardless, Gibbs has a good enough floor to be considered an RB1 and will put up gaudy numbers if his teammate misses any time this season.

DET RB Jahmyr Gibbs - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Dallas Cowboys

Jahmyr Gibbs has really been picking up steam lately. After his two-touchdown performance against the Vikings, he has now scored in three straight and seven of his last nine games. He is rolling heading into the fantasy championship week and is very much worth a starting spot against a struggling Cowboys defense. It took a bit, but Gibbs is finally doing what we all expected after the Lions took him 12th overall in April's draft.

DET RB Jahmyr Gibbs - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Minnesota Vikings

A big day for Jahmyr Gibbs in a big Week 15 wins over the Broncos. Gibbs rushed for 100 yards and had two total touchdowns. Despite having less touches than David Montgomery last week (19-13), Gibbs remained on a roll, having now scored a touchdown in six of his last eight games. Even in a tough matchup, we have Gibbs as an RB1 for this week.

DET RB Jahmyr Gibbs - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Denver Broncos

Another fine day for the rookie. 82 total yards on 15 touches and a touchdown, his fifth game out of the last seven with a score. Denver is allowing the most rushing yards per game, so this should be another good opportunity for Gibbs. Fire him up this week for the playoffs.

DET RB Jahmyr Gibbs - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Chicago Bears

It seems like Jahmyr Gibbs is back to a role of about 10 carries per game. He had eight last week against the Saints but did go 60 yards, his third game with at least 50 rushing yards out of four since the bye week. Gibbs conceded some work to David Montgomery in part due to the Lions getting a big lead early before the Saints made a game out of it. In Week 11 against the Bears, Gibbs had 38 yards on eight carries with a touchdown while adding 59 yards on six receptions. Gibbs remains a solid RB2 this week.

DET RB Jahmyr Gibbs - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at New Orleans Saints

15 touches last week against the Packers as Jahmyr Gibbs continues to see a solid role in the Lions’ offense. He added another four catches, giving him 13 in three games since the Week 9 bye and 27 in five games since he returned from injury. Gibbs gets enough volume now, even with David Montgomery firmly in the mix, to keep him as a solid RB2 option with RB1 upside against a middle-of-the-pack Saints rushing defense.
