CIN TE Irv Smith Jr. - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Houston Texans
Irv Smith Jr. had only three receptions for 26 yards, but one of those catches was his first touchdown of the season. Smith has struggled with some injuries this season, but he is still involved in the offense to a point. Just not enough to warrant a start as teammate Tanner Hudson is also past of the tight end rotation.

CIN TE Irv Smith Jr. - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Buffalo Bills
Irv Smith had a season-high four catches last week, but he hasn't done much this season and part of the reason is all the other offensive weapons on the Cincinnati roster. Until we see some consistent numbers, Smith isn't a fantasy factor and probably should remain on the waiver wire.

CIN TE Irv Smith Jr. - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Arizona Cardinals
Irv Smith returns from injury and will be back in the starting lineup. He only has five receptions in two games so far, but there could be opportunities this week as WR Tee Higgins is out.

The Cardinals are the opponent and are ranked 12th in aFPA to tight ends. The way the Bengals offense is struggling and with Smith just getting back into lineup. he should remain on the bench for Week 5 ranked as a TE2.

CIN TE Irv Smith Jr. - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Baltimore Ravens
Irv Smith had five targets and three catches for 17 yards. This is about what we expect each week although the receiving numbers should be higher. He will have a tough matchup again this week against the Ravens so we will keep him ranked as a low-end TE2. Keep Smith on the bench for Week 2.

CIN TE Irv Smith Jr. - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Cleveland Browns
The Bengals signed Irv Smith to be their No. 1 tight end and the word "potential" always follows him around. Cincinnati is hoping he is at least as good as Hayden Hurst, although he has never put up more than 365 receiving yards in a game.

Smith faces a very good Cleveland defense that had success stopping tight ends last season. We will have to wait and see how Zac Taylor uses him and his relationship with Joe Burrow.

Smith should remain on the bench for Week 1. He is an option as a bench player for depth but there are still too many unknowns to know which way he will trend.

CIN TE Irv Smith Jr. - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Irv Smith takes over as the No. 1 tight end in Cincinnati. Smith has talent and will be in one of the best offensive systems in the NFL. He will also have Joe Burrow throwing to him instead of Kirk Cousins. There really isn't much competition on the roster, so he should get a majority of the snaps.

Fantasy Downside
Smith has never put up numbers and part of the reason is he can't stay on the field. He played all 16 games his rookie year but only 21 games over the past three seasons. He hasn't been much of a receiving threat since being drafted out of Alabama.

2023 Bottom Line
Smith will likely be the fifth option in the passing game and that's if he can stay healthy. He ranks as a low-end TE2 so if you take him, make sure he is backing up one of the top-five tight ends. A heathy Smith should put up career highs in every category and touchdowns will be one reason his stock rises as the season goes on.

MIN TE Irv Smith Jr. - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Arizona Cardinals
Irv Smith Jr. comes off the bye having salvaged a TE13 finish in Week 6 with a touchdown on four receptions for seven yards. Smith generally plays most of Minnesota's offensive snaps and he runs a healthy amount of routes for a tight end, but the fact remains that he is merely an ancillary receiving option for Kirk Cousins. To this point in the season, the highest yardage total Smith has produced was 42 yards back in Week 5. That means Smith will need to find the end zone to return a serviceable fantasy week. He will have a great chance to do that this week against Arizona, a team that boasts a poor defense but one that especially struggles to contain opposing TEs. Smith is a solid streaming option this week.
