Packers coach Mike McCarthy said that rookie RB Johnathan Franklin is still recovering from a neck injury that landed him on injured reserve late in the year.

Fantasy Impact: 

McCarthy added that Franklin did not undergo surgery and he only knows a limited amount about his rehab because he hasn't met with the doctors lately. Franklin is still third on the depth chart behind Eddie Lacy and resigned James Starks.

The reigning offensive rookie of the year who rushed for a Packers' rookie record 1,178 yards last season, Eddie Lacy will be the workhorse back once again. In fact, he could be on the field even more than he was last season, when he played 60.5 percent of the offensive snaps. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said at last month's scouting combine that he wants Lacy to become a three-down back. Last season, he often gave way to fullback John Kuhn on third down.

Fantasy Impact: 

Lacy finished as the #7 RB in his rookie season and did it in essentially 14 games. Removing Week 2 (where he was concussed and only carried the ball once), Lacy averaged 14.9 fantasy points, which is the 6th-best average, just behind Adrian Peterson. He is a great talent and plays in a potent offense that should be even better in 2014 with a (hopefully) healthy Aaron Rodgers under center.

Packers re-sign James Starks to a two-year deal

Free agent running back James Starks has re-signed with the Green Bay Packers on a two-year deal, a source confirmed late Monday night.

Late last season, he was used in tandem with rookie Eddie Lacy, a 1-2 punch the Packers would probably like to continue into 2014. Starks finished the 2013 season with 493 yards on 89 attempts, good for a whopping 5.5 average.

Fantasy Impact: 

Starks likely backs up Lacy again in 2014. He was effective as a change-of-pace back last season and can carry the load in short stints when called upon.

Giovani Bernard

Beat: Gio Bernard to push 300 touches

After a spectacular NFL Rookie of the Year finalist season, Bengals RB Giovani Bernard is only going to get more work and no doubt is going to border on 300 touches.

Fantasy Impact: 

Bernard saw 226 touches in 2013 and finished as the #16 RB in standard formats. If he produces fantasy points at the same rate, 280 touches would put him in Eddie Lacy territory (and in the top 10). We're skeptical that the diminutive Bernard will see 300-plus touches, but 260-280 seems reasonable.
