Scouting report

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Detroit Lions

DK Metcalf found the end zone in Week 1 (he was probably happy Jalen Ramsey is no longer with the Rams). He was tied for the team lead with 5 targets. Seattle struggled throwing the football in Week 1. They should have more success against the Lions this week. Metcalf is always a good bet to score so he’s always worth a start in fantasy.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Los Angeles Rams

It's always about the upside with DK Metcalf. He did have an 8-127-1 line in Week 13 against the Rams last season. And remember, Jalen Ramsey is no longer in LA. Metcalf has a chance to do some damage against this Rams defense that is a bit of a mess outside of Aaron Donald. Metcalf is always a pretty safe option in fantasy. Week 1 is no different.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Part of Geno Smith's career year was helping DK Metcalf see some of the highest numbers he's had in the NFL. Metcalf's 141 targets and 90 receptions were career-highs and his 1,048 yards were the second-most for him in a season. He should continue to see a high number of targets and be a strong fantasy option.

Fantasy Downside
The hope this season is that Metcalf has better touchdown luck than last season. Metcalf had the most red-zone targets last season with 24 but only ended up with six touchdowns for the season. Seattle also now has a trio of receivers that can all make an impact. That could sometimes keep him from being a WR1.

2023 Bottom Line
Metcalf is still a force to be reckoned with. He's going to see a nice target share from Smith, but his touchdowns will still be volatile, as those targets could also go to Lockett or JSN. Still, Metcalf has always been a great talent and will put up points somehow. He's a solid WR2 heading into drafts.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. New York Jets

With no Tyler Lockett last week against the Chiefs, DK Metcalf caught seven passes for 81 yards, as Geno Smith continues his strong connection with Metcalf. A date with Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed awaits this week as the Seahawks host the Jets, but the talent of Metcalf always makes him a solid weekly fantasy option. Even in a tough matchup, Metcalf checks in as a WR2, even with Lockett possibly back this week, with all the targets he'll likely get.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Kansas City Chiefs

DK Metcalf is now the guy in the Seattle passing attack this week as Tyler Lockett is out with a broken finger. So it'll be Metcalf with Marquise Goodwin. Regardless, Metcalf eats up targets from Geno Smith. So even in a tough matchup with the Chiefs, Metcalf remains a solid option because of his ability to break a big one at any given moment and the connection he has with Smith.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. San Francisco 49ers

DK Metcalf is on a stretch with four touchdowns in his last six games, including two straight. On a short week, Metcalf has a date with an elite defense in San Francisco, who held him to just 35 yards on four catches in Week 2. That being said, Seattle’s passing game has been pretty hot of late and Metcalf is getting plenty of targets, making him a worthy start even in a short week. Strong WR2 with WR1 upside.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Carolina Panthers

Eight catches, 127 yards and the game-winning touchdown last week against the Rams. DK Metcalf is rolling as of late and that roll should continue this week against Carolina, who ranks 20th against the pass in DVOA and is giving up 34 fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers. It's playoff time and Metcalf has shown worthy of leading your team through the bracket. Let him take you either to the next round or punch your ticket into the playoffs.
