Scouting report

SF QB Colin Kaepernick - Week 10, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Arizona
Kapernick threw for 398 yards and two scores with an interception and a fumble last week in a shootout against New Orleans. He also ran five times for 23 yards. The passing yards were more than he had in his first two games combined. It's unlikely he'll have similar success on the road at Arizona, which has not allowed a passing touchdown in its last three games and has given up five all season. Take a pass on Kaepernick and the 49ers passing game this week.

SF QB Colin Kaepernick - Week 9, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. New Orleans
Kaepernick has completed less than 50 percent of his passes since taking over the starting job two games ago and hasn't topped 187 passing yards. He does, however, have 150 rushing yards in those two games, which is what you expect out of Kaepernick. New Orleans has allowed fewer than 240 passing yards in just one game this season, so the opportunities will be there for the 49ers to throw the ball. Because of his running ability, Kaepernick is a sneaky start with some other top QBs on bye.

SF QB Colin Kaepernick - Week 7, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Tampa Bay
Kaepernick threw for just 187 yards and a touchdown, but did rush for 66 yards on eight attempts. The 49ers, however, generated just 16 points in a blowout loss. Tampa Bay has allowed at least 238 passing yards or two TD passes in each game this season, which isn't great and the Bucs had allowed at least 278 yards in each of their three road games. There will be some opportunities here, but take a wait-and-see approach with Kaepernick unless you're really hurting at the position.

SF QB Colin Kaepernick - Week 6, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Buffalo
Kaepernick takes over for Blaine Gabbert, but don't necessarily expect any better results. The 49ers are an offensively challenged group, and Buffalo is very stingy on defense toward opposing quarterbacks. In fact, the Bills have allowed just two TD passes and none in their last three games. Kaepernick might see some openings to run, but he didn't do a lot of that last season before losing the job to Gabbert. Take a pass.

SF QB Colin Kaepernick - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Kaepernick was only cleared to resume throwing in late July after having shoulder surgery. That put him clearly behind Blaine Gabbert in the San Francisco QB competition. And remember, he had just 1,600 yards and six TD passes in nine games before being shut down last season. Even though his skill set fits Chip Kelly's offense, Kaepernick will be hard pressed to beat out Gabbert. And even if he does, he doesn't have a lot of fantasy value.

SF QB Colin Kaepernick - Week 8, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at St. Louis
Kaepernick has thrown for less than 165 yards in four of seven starts this season, including a putrid 124 last week against Seattle. He does have five touchdown passes in his past two starts against St. Louis, but the Rams have been very solid against opposing QBs this season, ranking third in points allowed and just five touchdown passes. There's no reason to ride the roller coaster with Kaepernick.

SF QB Colin Kaepernick - Week 7, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Seattle
Kaepernick had his second consecutive productive game, throwing for a season-high 340 yards and two scores last week against Baltimore, adding 10 yards rushing. When he's been good, he's been good, with all six of his TD passes coming in three games. In the other three games, he has no TDs and five interceptions. Seattle coming to town typically does not bode well for Kaepernick. In his past four games against the Seahawks, he has just one TD pass and four interceptions. Chances are, it will be bad Kaep this week.
