Scouting report

CAR RB Chris Ogbonnaya - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 – Chris Ogbonnaya vs. New Orleans
Chris Ogbonnaya had only one carry for nine yards against Seattle last week, as the Panthers have been relying on a surprisingly healthy Jonathan Stewart the past few games. Ogbonnaya has emerged as a short yardage threat in previous weeks, so he may get some goal line touches moving forward with Mike Tolbert ailing. However, that kind of sporadic work will not make him worth adding to your fantasy roster.

CAR RB Chris Ogbonnaya - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 – Chris Ogbonnaya vs. Seattle
Chris Ogbonnaya got five change of pace carries last week in a blowout loss to the Packers. He ended up with 17 yards behind returning starting Jonathan Stewart. Ogbonnaya may get more touches this week against Seattle if Carolina can keep the game a little closer against Seattle than they did against the Packers. Still, it’s unlikely he gets more touches than 6-8 and that’s not going to cut it as a viable fantasy option. He’s not worth rostering in fantasy leagues.

CAR RB Chris Ogbonnaya - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 – Chris Ogbonnaya vs. Green Bay
Chris Ogbonnaya had a touchdown a couple of weeks ago, but didn’t see the ball last week against the Bengals. He should continue to serve a complimentary role to the other backs in Carolina and for now seems to have no fantasy value.

CAR RB Chris Ogbonnaya - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 – Chris Ogbonnaya vs. Cincinnati

Chris Ogbonnaya got a surprising eight carries against the Bears last week and he wound up with 24 yards and a goal line touchdown run that makes it look like he’ll be taking Mike Tolbert’s role while the veteran is hurt.

Ogbonnaya will still split touches with whoever starts however, and a tough matchup against the Bengals this week makes him a very risky fantasy option. Fantasy owners shouldn’t read too much into his touchdown last week and should look elsewhere for a player with more upside on a team with less issues up front and a better matchup.

CAR RB Chris Ogbonnaya - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 – Chris Ogbonnaya vs. Chicago
Chris Ogbonnaya was a desperation signing for the Carolina Panthers, as their top three running backs are all injured and their fourth back is coming off an injury. Expect Ogbonnaya to get a few touches as the Panthers try to assemble anything resembling a running game, but he’s not likely to get the kind of workload to make him worth rostering at this point.

RB Chris Ogbonnaya - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Over the past three years, Chris Ogbonnaya has been utilized as Cleveland’s “in case of emergency, break glass” player. When Peyton Hillis bombed as the team’s feature back in 2011, Ogbonnaya helped pick up the slack. And after Trent Richardson was traded to the Colts last year, Ogbonnaya pitched in, primarily as a receiver. But the arrivals of Terrance West and Ben Tate cast doubts on Ogbonnaya’s future with the Browns. Will he find a way to remain a contributor?

Fantasy Upside
Tate and West have more talent than Ogbonnaya, but both have flaws. Tate is not the most durable player in the world and West is transitioning from Towson to the NFL, which is not an easy transition to make.

Fantasy Downside
If the Browns truly had faith in Ogbonnaya, they would not have brought in West and Tate. Additionally, Dion Lewis is back after missing last year with an injury. In Cleveland’s first preseason game, Ogbonnaya was limited to special teams. The past three seasons have proven Chris does not possess enough talent to be a lead NFL back.

Bottom Line
The ship has sailed on Ogbonnaya being any kind of fantasy option. Bringing him onto your team would put your squad in mortal danger.
