Scouting report

BAL RB Bernard Pierce - Week 19, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Divisional Round – Bernard Pierce vs. New England
Bernard Pierce had one carry for five yards last week in a victory over the Steelers, and the bulk of the carries in the Baltimore backfield will continue to go to Justin Forsett. With only four games going on, Pierce gains a little value, but he’s honestly not even one of the top backup running back options this week, with more carries likely to go to the likes of other backups like James Starks and Ronnie Hillman. Pierce will touch the ball, but probably not enough to make him worth starting.

BAL RB Bernard Pierce - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wildcard Weekend – Bernard Pierce vs. Pittsburgh
Bernard Pierce had six carries last week against the Browns but didn’t do much with the touches, finishing with only eight yards rushing. He’s battling Fitzgerald Toussaint for change of pace carries behind Justin Forsett, and his workload this season has been wildly inconsistent. Expect more of the same this week against a tough Pittsburgh run defense, making Pierce a terrible fantasy option and one that should be avoided.

BAL RB Bernard Pierce - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Bernard Pierce vs. Cleveland
Bernard Pierce had only one carry last week against the Texans, losing two yards. Meanwhile, undrafted rookie Fitzgerald Toussaint out of Michigan had four carries behind starter Justin Forsett. There’s no reason to count on Pierce, as he hasn’t gotten even legitimate backup touches recently. Forsett will get touches, but Pierce is too much of a risk to warrant rostering in any fantasy leagues.

BAL RB Bernard Pierce - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Bernard Pierce vs. Houston

With rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro now on IR and out of the picture, Bernard Pierce should have less to contend with for touches behind starter Justin Forsett. Pierce had six carries for 37 yards last week and managed a nice 28 yard run where he showed some of the power that has been missing from his game for nearly two seasons.

This week, Pierce faces a Houston defense that has been average against the run this year, but he remains a backup to Justin Forsett and is unlikely to eclipse the half dozen touches he got last week. Pierce is strictly a handcuff, and should not be active in fantasy leagues this week.

BAL RB Bernard Pierce - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Bernard Pierce vs. Jacksonville
Bernard Pierce only had three carries against the Dolphins last week (though he gained 50 yards), just as it seemed he’d taken a stranglehold on the backup RB job. Rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro had seven carries. Baltimore continues to shuffle these guys behind starter Justin Forsett, making both very risky options and making it difficult to accurately predict the Forsett handcuff. Fantasy owners should steer clear of both, especially Pierce who doesn’t have keeper or dynasty value.

BAL RB Bernard Pierce - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Bernard Pierce vs. Miami
Bernard Pierce had six change of pace carries last week against the Chargers for 16 yards on the ground. He has settled into his role behind Justin Forsett, but with Forsett playing as well as he is, there’s no benefit to counting on Pierce as anything other than a risky handcuff. Pierce will continue to get half a dozen or so touches a game, but that’s not enough to warrant fantasy consideration.

BAL RB Bernard Pierce - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 – Bernard Pierce vs. San Diego
Bernard Pierce had seven carries for 28 yards last week, and he added a six yard reception as the Ravens knocked off the Saints on Monday night. Pierce has been getting the change-of-pace carries consistently lately over rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro, making him seemingly the right handcuff for Justin Forsett owners. With Forsett playing so well however, Pierce’s value aside from being a handcuff is very minimal and he should not be active in any leagues this week against the Chargers.
