CIN QB Andy Dalton - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs San Francisco
One of the biggest surprises of Week 1 was Andy Dalton's performance at Seattle. He threw for 418 yards and two touchdowns and although he didn't throw an interception, he did lose two fumbles. Dalton has been capable in the past, but with A.J. Green, the Bengals were expected to struggle offensively. It didn't happen last week.

Next up is San Francisco who is 20th in aFPA to quarterbacks. Dalton will be at home this week and one thing the Bengals need to do is protect him better. He was sacked five times last week.

Dalton wasn't even on the fantasy radar in the preseason, but now he will be picked up in most leagues where he was a free agent. We want to see more from him before we start putting him in the starting lineup but he rates a QB2 for Week 2 and might end up being a viable backup quarterback on your roster.

CIN QB Andy Dalton - 2019 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Consistently good is how to describe Andy Dalton’s nine-year career. He has played seven seasons where he hasn’t missed a game and has never thrown for less than 3,300 yards during those seasons. Dalton did eclipse the 4,000-yard mark on two occasions and that is possible again if his receivers stay healthy. You can count on at least 20 touchdown passes and less than 10 interceptions if his 2019 numbers mirror recent seasons. And new coach Zac Taylor is all-in with Dalton as the starting quarterback for the next two seasons which is when his contract expires. Cincy chose a quarterback in the fourth round of the 2019 draft, but Ryan Finley is no threat to Dalton’s job.

Fantasy Downside
Dalton has only missed eight games during his career but five of those were at the end of last season. His top receivers – AJ Green and Tyler Eifert – have both had injury issues over the past three years and that has hurt the Bengals passing game. The offensive line also struggled last season again which doesn’t help an immobile Dalton.

2019 Bottom Line
The problem with Dalton from a fantasy standpoint is he has been good, not great with the exception of two seasons. His numbers are reliable, but he isn’t going to be among the league leaders in 2019. Still, he isn’t a bad option to take later in the draft as your second quarterback because of that consistency. If he plays a full season and his receivers are healthy, 3,700 yards and 25 touchdowns is realistic as his ceiling for this season.

CIN QB Andy Dalton - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Cleveland Browns

Andy Dalton continues to put up decent but not great fantasy numbers. He threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns last week against Baltimore. The absence of A.J. Green has been impactful and there is a good chance he won't play again this week.

Cleveland is the Week 12 opponent. The Browns are fourth in aFPA to quarterbacks. Against Cleveland, Dalton has been very successful in recent years. He has thrown 15 touchdowns without an interception over the last six games in the series. However, this Browns defense has been much better. Keep Dalton on the bench for Week 12 as a QB2.

CIN QB Andy Dalton - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Baltimore Ravens

Andy Dalton is coming off a poor outing last week against the Saints. He threw for only 153 yards and added two interceptions to his day. The Bengals looked strong earlier in the season but the offense has taken a step back and the team fired their defensive coordinator. It didn't help Dalton that AJ Green was out last week and probably will be this week as well.

Dalton will face the Ravens who are sixth in aFPA to quarterbacks. In the first meeting back in Week 2, Dalton was outstanding. He threw four touchdowns with zero picks. In his career, Dalton has been below average against Baltimore. He has thrown 17 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 57 percent of his passes. Dalton is not a good play for Week 11. The team is struggling and so is the offense. Keep him on the bench.

CIN QB Andy Dalton - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. New Orleans Saints

Andy Dalton had a solid game against Tampa last week throwing for 280 yards and two touchdowns. He might have lost his best receiver for awhile as A.J. Green will be out for at least a couple of weeks with a toe injury. This will probably hurt Dalton overall, but he won't disappear off the fantasy radar.

Dalton will face a Saints defense that is dead last in aFPA to quarterbacks. The good matchup might not be enough with Green out. Keep Dalton on the bench for Week 10 against New Orleans as a QB2.

CIN QB Andy Dalton - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Andy Dalton had a great matchup last Sunday against KC and ended up with his worst performance of the season. He only completed 52 percent of his passes and threw for a season-low 148 yards. Dalton threw one touchdown and one interception. It was a disappointing outing in prime time for the Bengals' QB.

Dalton has another great matchup this week against Tampa Bay who is last in aFPA to quarterbacks in the NFL. But as we saw last week, a favorable matchup doesn't always help him. Dalton should be a starter for Week 8, but he only rates a low-end QB1.

CIN QB Andy Dalton - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Kansas City Chiefs

Andy Dalton put up solid numbers against the Steelers last week except he only averaged 5.5 yards per pass attempt. He did not throw any picks and did throw two touchdown passes. Dalton has never really lit up Pittsburgh so this was what we kind of expected.

Dalton will face the KC defense on Sunday night. The Chiefs are 29th in aFPA to quarterbacks so this is a great matchup for the Bengals offense. Expect Dalton to be near that 40 attempt mark and start him in all leagues and formats as a top 5 fantasy quarterback for Week 7.
