HOU WR Andre Johnson - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 – Andre Johnson vs. Dallas Cowboys
In the win over Buffalo last Sunday, Andre Johnson was targeted seven times, leading to six catches for 71 yards. He also lost a fumble that led to a Bills score and was bothered by a sore ankle. Andre has collected six receptions in three of the four games this season and is averaging 65.5 yards per contest. However, he still has yet to find the end zone, something fellow WR DeAndre Hopkins has done three times already. The Dallas defense has been surprisingly pretty decent the past few games, but they still give up a lot of yards. Johnson needs to be started, as he’s too talented to be left on your bench. He has been getting the red zone targets, just not converting.

HOU WR Andre Johnson - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 – Andre Johnson vs. Buffalo Bills
In the loss to the Giants last Sunday, Andre Johnson was targeted a team-high 11 times by Ryan Fitzpatrick, but finished with only four catches for 24 yards. With no Arian Foster and the Texans trying to play catch-up, Fitzpatrick threw the ball 34 times. Andre has 16 receptions in the first three games, but so far DeAndre Hopkins has been the better fantasy WR, with more yards and two TDs. Buffalo is allowing 267 passing yards per game, so this could be the time for Johnson’s breakout game of ’14.

HOU WR Andre Johnson - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 – Andre Johnson vs. New York Giants
For the second consecutive game Andre Johnson finished with six receptions. In the win over the Raiders last Sunday, No. 80 caught six Ryan Fitzpatrick passes for 74 yards, but again it was DeAndre Hopkins who got the TD toss. Johnson was targeted a team-high seven times and will likely continue to lead the WRs in looks from Fitzpatrick. Andre has a good chance for his first score of the season against a Giants team that's allowing 30 points per game.

HOU WR Andre Johnson - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 – Andre Johnson vs. Oakland Raiders
Andre Johnson looks to have quickly built a rapport with his new QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. He finished last Sunday’s game with six catches and 93 yards on nine targets. While DeAndre Hopkins had the big 76-yard TD, it was Johnson who Fitzpatrick looked to most often. While Ryan is likely not going to put up big QB numbers each week, No. 80 will get plenty of targets and should continue to be a strong fantasy play.

HOU WR Andre Johnson - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 – Andre Johnson vs. Washington Redskins
While he’s not completely healthy, Andre Johnson is as good as he’s been in a long time and will absolutely be on the field in the opener. The 33-year-old may have lost a step, but he’s coming off of a season in which he caught 109 passes for over 1,400 yards. Last season he had a few QBs throwing him passes, but Ryan Fitzpatrick gets the starting nod in ’14 and should quickly develop chemistry with No. 80. Definitely be sure Johnson is started in Week 1.

HOU WR Andre Johnson - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Whispers of Andre Johnson's demise after two injury-plagued seasons were greatly premature. He opened 2012 with a statement -- eight receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown against Miami -- and went on to finish fourth in the NFL with 112 catches for 1,598 yards and four touchdowns, marking one of the most productive seasons of his illustrious career. He played all 16 games last season for the first time since 1009.

Fantasy Downside
Johnson is 31 and no doubt has lost a tick of speed through age and wear on his legs.

Bottom Line
Johnson is still a bit of an injury gamble, but when healthy there are still few receivers as productive. The Texans still lack a true complementary threat (although DeAndre Hopkins is improving), but that hasn't hampered Johnson much through his first 10 seasons. Nor did the lack of high-end QB play in Houston last season slow him much.
