Week 17 vs. Carolina Panthers
Evan Engram was still able to put up fantasy-relevant numbers in Week 16, despite the Jaguars shellacking at the hands of the Buccaneers. Engram caught ten of his 15 targets for 95 yards on his way to 12.5 Half-PPR points. This was Engram's third double-digit reception game of the season, and he has caught four or more balls in every single game in 2023. He has career highs in receptions (98) and receiving yards (824) this season.
Engram's workload keeps him in the TE1 conversation, despite the uncertainty at quarterback and the less-than-favorable matchup. The Panthers rank first in aFPA to tight ends in 2023.
Week 16 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After his explosive game against the Browns in Week 14, Evan Engram came back to earth with a massive bump against the Ravens. Engram could only manage four grabs for 28 yards on his way to just 4.8 Half-PPR points, finishing the week as the TE29.
Pass catchers around the league usually lick their lips whenever the Buccaneers come onto the schedule, be they wide receivers or tight ends. The Bucs rank 29th in aFPA to the latter, but the lack of Trevor Lawrence makes the entire Jaguars offense something of a liability. Still, C.J. Beathard may look to get the ball out of his hands quickly, in which case the areas where Engram generally patrols should be somewhat fertile ground for cheap receptions. Engram can be viewed as a low-end TE1 in Week 16.
Week 15 vs. Baltimore Ravens
Evan Engram had himself a day against the Browns in Week 14. Engram was targeted 12 times, catching 11 for 95 yards and two scores on his way to 27 Half-PPR points. Engram led all tight ends in fantasy scoring last week, and ranks as TE6 in points per game in 2023.
The Ravens have been more susceptible to tight ends than wide receivers this season, ranking seventh in aFPA to wideouts but only 16th to tight ends. Engram’s safe weekly target floor makes him a safe mid-tier TE1 projection, especially now he has discovered a taste for the end zone.
Week 14 at Cleveland Browns
Our long national nightmare came to an end last week, with Evan Engram finally finding the end zone for the Jaguars. Engram caught all nine of his targets for 82 yards and his score, finishing with 18.7 Half-PPR points in Week 13. He was the TE3 overall.
The Browns have erased tight ends in fantasy this season and rank fourth in aFPA to the position. Engram remains in play as a low-end TE1 option on volume alone, as stand-in quarterback C.J. Beathard will almost certainly look to his safety valve early and often.
Week 13 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
The long wait for an Evan Engram touchdown continues. Engram actually led the Jaguars with eight targets a week ago, seeing eight targets against the Texans. But his five catches only brought 49 scoreless yards and 7.4 Half-PPR points, which admittedly was good for TE10 last week.
If the Engram explosion game is coming, then it should be this week against the Bengals who are one of the best matchups a tight end can ask for this season. The Bengals rank 30th in aFPA to tight ends in 2023, making Engram a solid mid-tier TE1 projection in Week 13.
Week 12 at Houston Texans
It was another quiet game from Evan Engram against the Titans in Week 11. The tight end saw six targets and caught four of them, but could only muster 29 yards. He still hasn't scored a touchdown in 2023, and he is down to a 7.5 Half PPR points per game average, good for TE15.
Engram does have a prime matchup against the Texans coming up in Week 12, it must be said. No team has been more generous to fantasy tight ends than the Texans, who rank 32nd in aFPA to the position. Engram is a steady, floor-based TE1 option this week, but his inability to find the paint severely caps his upside.
Week 11 vs. Tennessee Titans
Evan Engram suffered a rare stinker in Week 10, despite his eighth game in a row with seven or more targets. Engram managed just 3.2 Half-PPR points, his lowest tally of the season, and is still yet to score a touchdown in 2023. Engram finished as the TE26, a long way off his seasonal rank of TE13 with a 7.8 points per game average.
The Engram bounceback game may not be the Week 11 clash with the Titans, as they rank first in aFPA to tight ends this season. Still, Engram remains a safety blanket for Trevor Lawrence, and his weekly target floor is something to bank on. He should be considered as a low-end TE1 option this week, but a touchdown or two wouldn't go amiss.
Week 10 vs. San Francisco 49ers
Evan Engram has been everything the Jaguars wanted him to be this season. He leads the team with 61 targets and 51 receptions, but his 434 yards have not contained a single touchdown. He is the TE9 in Half-PPR points per game, averaging 8.4 points.
Engram's workload and opportunities are likely to prop him up in fantasy terms this week, as the 49ers have not been friendly opponents for tight ends in 2023. They rank seventh in aFPA to the position. But given his likely high target share, and the generally underwhelming nature of the tight end spot, Engram should still be viewed as a safe TE1 in Week 10.
Week 8 at Pittsburgh Steelers
Evan Engram caught five balls for 45 yards on National Tight End Day, his fifth five-catch game out of six this season. His 41 receptions this season do not contain a single touchdown grab, but his steady weekly production keeps him in the TE1 conversation. Engram managed 7.0 Half-PPR points and finished as the TE14, although in points per game this season he is the TE9.
The Steelers have been no pushovers for tight ends in 2023, with the team ranking fourth in aFPA to the position. Still, while the ceiling rarely seems to be achieved with Engram, the floor is very rarely missed. He'll finish as a mid-tier TE1 this week, you can almost bank on it.
Week 7 at New Orleans Saints
Last week saw Evan Engram's fourth seven-catch game of the 2023 season. It also produced his lowest yard-per-catch mark at just 5.9, and he remains without a touchdown on the season. Still, his 7-41 line produced 7.6 Half-PPR points and helped him finish as the TE14. Engram is TE8 in points per game this season.
Tight ends have not enjoyed much success against the Saints this season, as they rank ninth in aFPA to the position. Engram's weekly workload is a comfort to all his fantasy managers, however, even with the toughest of matchups. He should be viewed as a mid-level TE1 in Week 7.
