Scouting report

CLE RB Duke Johnson - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Duke Johnson wasn't awful last week, finishing with 53 total yards. He also had four receptions which was more than he had in the previous three games combined. The fact this was one of Johnson's better games this season tells you he's not really worth fantasy consideration this week, even though it's a great matchup. He had just 39 yards on three touches when he played the Bengals earlier in the year.

CLE RB Duke Johnson - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Denver Broncos

Duke Johnson went the wrong direction last week, finishing with negative six yards. Amazingly he finished the game with no receptions as he now has seven total catches over the last four weeks. It's safe to say Johnson is pretty much off the fantasy radar at this point.

CLE RB Duke Johnson - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Carolina Panthers

Duke Johnson had no carries last week, and caught just two of three targets for 12 yards. Johnson has 12 total touches in his last three games combined, making it difficult for him to really make an impact. He's mostly off the fantasy radar at this point.

CLE RB Duke Johnson - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Duke Johnson at Houston Texans

Duke Johnson had a huge two-touchdown performance in the first game after Hue Jackson was fired, leading us to believe he'll be used more often. That hasn't quite been the case, especially last week when he had just three total touches.

Johnson doesn't carry too much fantasy relevance this week vs. Houston. He's a low-end RB3 option or flex play.

CLE RB Duke Johnson - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Cincinnati Bengals

Duke Johnson has benefited the most in Hue Jackson's absence. He was barely used at all during Jackson's run in 2018, but since then has had his best fantasy games of the season. Before the bye week, Johnson caught all four of his touches for 31 yards with a score, and added 15 yards on three carries.

Johnson clearly has more value in PPR formats, where he can be viewed as a low-end RB2 option vs. the Bengals. Cincinnati is giving up the third-most fantasy points to opposing backs, so this should be a favorable game for Johnson.

CLE RB Duke Johnson - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Duke Johnson was averaging 2.5 receptions per game and was averaging less than 30 yards. But now that Hue Jackson and Todd Haley are gone, the Browns realized Johnson was actually good, and gave him nine targets in the passing game last week. He turned that into nine receptions for 78 yards and two scores in a breakout performance.

It's hard to know if those kinds of numbers will continue, but the post-Jackson and Haley era seems to at least want to get Johnson involved. He gets a dream matchup this week vs. the Falcons who have allowed a league-high 68 receptions to backs in 2018. They're also just one of five teams to give up 500+ receiving yards to backs this season.

Johnson clearly carries more value in PPR formats where he can be viewed as a low-end RB2 play this week. He's more of an RB3 option in standard.

CLE RB Duke Johnson - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Duke Johnson played just 36 percent of the offensive snaps last week, which was his second lowest of the season. He finished the game with four touches, which tied for his lowest numbers of the year.

Maybe Johnson can get it going this week against the Chiefs, who have allowed the most receiving yards to opposing backs this season. But it's hard to trust him based on his usage so far. He's not really a valuable fantasy option in Week 9.
