NFL Preseason DFS Week 2 Breakdown: Saturday Slate

Week 2 of the preseason is usually the trickiest week in terms of projecting playing time because coaches approach it from different perspectives. Week 1 and 4 we usually see mostly reserve players. The starters get the most time in Week 3, sometimes upwards of three quarters. But Week 2 could see anything from starters being rested to them playing an entire half. It’s crucial to have your finger on the pulse of how each coach plans on approaching their second exhibition game.

Update (6:03): Dalyn Dawkins may or may not be 100% healthy, monitor that and set exposures accordingly

Update (6:09): There is some buzz that recently signed Josh Johnson may get extended run tonight. He's worth consideration now as a QB play.

Chiefs at Steelers

Andy Reid, much like he did last year, said the Chiefs will get extended run this week to the tune of close to the entire first half. I'm not sure if thats a believable statement. However if that’s the case, all the Chiefs starters are fair game. Patrick Mahomes, whichever running backs are healthy, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce. I also like Mecole Hardman. With the starters playing so much, there aren’t many reserves I’m too excited about. Tight end Deon Yelder saw six targets and he should be on the field for most of the second half.

The Steelers are dealing with the loss of their wide receivers coach, which is naturally having an impact on several players. Dobbs and Rudolph should split the game with Devlin Hodges maybe getting a series or two at the end. Rudolph and Dobbs looked equally decent last week, the difference being Rudolph cashed in on two scoring drives. They are both in play but I like Dobbs for his rushing prowess and potential lower ownership. Benny Snell is my favorite RB target here as he had 15 combined touches last week and I don’t think Conner or Samuels will get much work again. James Washington should be chalk and for good reason. He’s a big-play threat. Tevin Jones saw six targets last week which can’t be ignored, I don’t mind using a sprinkling of him. Also, monitor Diontae Johnson’s status as he could see his first pro action.
