2022 Farmers Insurance Open Betting Card Preview

We're a few events into the season, but things begin to heat up this week for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. We'll start to see the world's best golfers week-in and week-out moving forward. Twelve of the world's top 20 players have made the trip to La Jolla, California this week. The schedule is a bit wonky, with the Tour wisely moving the event into the Wednesday-Saturday window instead of competing with the NFL during Conference Championship Sunday.

This week, the field will split the first two days between the North and South courses, with weekend golf being played on one of the Tour's toughest tracks, the aforementioned South Course. After keeping some of the tee boxes and adjustments from June's U.S. Open, it's now the longest track on the Tour, featuring thick, penial rough, narrow fairways and small Poa Annua greens notoriously difficult to putt on. Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln? Course history matters here as well, as 11 of the last 13 winners have had a top-10 finish at this event prior to their win.

Past Winners at The Farmers Insurance Open

Handicapping early-season events when we have less relevant form data than we do in the spring and summer is a bit more of a feel thing than I'd like it to be. I'd prefer to lean on as much data as possible, but we're all in the same boat so let's work with what we have. For more course-specific data and event trends, please check out Ron Klos's tournament preview. It's the most comprehensive preview you'll find anywhere.

I've decided to change the format this year. There are so many ways to bet on this beautiful game, and I want to touch on all of them. Picking outright winners is fun, but must be done responsibly. Unit sizing is key, and I've shared my approach with our subscribers in the Discord chat. In this space, I want to touch on players I'm targeting this week and share my opinion on the best way to bet them at this event.

Please take advantage of the Discord feature and community. It's the best way to get up-to-the-minute lines and advice, and if you need help getting started, please reach out. My full betting card will be posted on Discord, along with any live in-tournament bets.

Betting markets are fluid, but I'll note the best number available at the time of this writing.
