The regular season ended with a thud. It felt like Russell Henley went out of his way to keep me and this column out of the winner's circle once again. It was an epic collapse that I'm still trying to shake off, but you're only as good as your next shot, so I'm going to take two club lengths no closer to the hole, take my drop, and try again.

It is officially the PGA TOUR's playoff season, a three-week test, which kicks off this week at Liberty National Golf Club. Just across the Hudson River in New Jersey, Liberty National invites stunning views of the Manhattan skyline. The top 124 players (Louis Oosthuizen and his bed aren't making the trip) in the FedEx Cup standings begin the race to the $15 million top prize, with the top 70 finishers here at the Northern Trust moving on to next week's BMW Championship at Caves Valley.

We don't see Liberty National Golf Club in rotation annually, but we've witnessed the Northern Trust here as recently as 2019 when Patrick Reed took home the title. It also hosted this event in 2009 and 2013, and it also played host to the U.S.A's President's Cup win in 2017. This week it'll play as a 7,410-yard Par-71. According to Ron Klos's notes, that would it make it the seventh-longest course on Tour by par average. Liberty National also features small bentgrass greens, which puts an emphasis on ball-striking this week.
