Streaming Tight Ends: Week 6 Targets

This is my fifth season writing this weekly column, and this very week may be the worst selection of tight ends I have encountered. I’m not typing in hyperbole here, it’s awful. But the games will go on—at least most of them should—so I’m here to give you whatever advice I can. As a strategy, streaming aims to find players with above-average matchups, which can hopefully translate to fantasy TE1 production for your fantasy squad.

For streaming purposes, 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed (aFPA) is a metric we rely heavily on to determine weekly matchup strength. As the season continues to progress and more data is available, aFPA becomes more and more reliable, using rolling 10-week data. Targets and efficiency metrics are also considered when choosing weekly streamers.

Our goal in all this is starting tight end results. In Week 5, my best streamer was Darren Fells, whose 12.7 half-PPR performance was the fantasy TE4 for the week, followed by Cameron Brate’s 6.9 half-PPR points, which equated to fantasy TE14 numbers. So far, 4for4’s optimal streamer boasts 86.9 total points—good enough for the overall fantasy TE1 on the season.

In order to provide advice you can actually implement, candidates for streaming must be rostered in no more than 40% of Yahoo! fantasy leagues.

Top Streaming Picks

Jordan Akins/Darren Fells (Texans) @ Titans

Jordan Akins was originally sidelined due to a concussion, was then cleared, but then kept out of Week 5 due to an ankle injury. In his absence, Darren Fells caught two passes for 57 yards and a score against the Jaguars.

This week, Houston faces a Titans defenses ranked 29th in TE aFPA, and that has surrendered 18.0 half-PPR points to opposing tight ends weekly so far in 2020. If Akins is back, he’s the guy to roster, but Fells could be streamable as well in such a crap week. Akins and Fells are on the waiver wire in 92% and 98% of Yahoo! leagues, respectively.

* Update: Akins is out, so Fells is a solid play in Week 6.

Jimmy Graham (Bears) @ Panthers
