Waiver Wire Watch: Week 5
Here is a look at the top waiver wire pickups for Week 5. To be eligible for discussion, the player must be owned in 40% or fewer ESPN leagues, though I'll stretch the rules a bit for the RB position, which is usually very thin. I'll also include suggested bid prices (with a $100 budget) for those leagues that use Free Agent Acquisition Budgets. Of course, player value depends on league characteristics and team needs.
* Players with an asterisk next to their name were mentioned in last week's Waiver Wire Watch.
Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick* ($7)
Fitzpatrick isn't technically eligible, but he still available in nearly 54% of ESPN leagues. He now has 12 touchdowns in four games, and while the upcoming schedule is not great, he should be owned in all formats.
Next up: 49ers, Cardinals, Titans
Vikings QB Christian Ponder* ($3)
Ponder was not terribly effective against the Lions completing 16 of 26 passes for just 111 yards and no touchdowns, largely due to the Vikings scoring two return TDs. However, with the Titans and the Redskins up next, things should get back on track.
Next up: Titans, Redskins, Cardinals
Jets QB Tim Tebow ($3)
Mark Sanchez had his third straight poor fantasy outing and the calls for Tim Tebow seem to be increasing in both frequency and volume. HC Rex Ryan reiterated that Sanchez is his quarterback, however if he struggles again in Week 5 against a tough Texans pass defense, then who knows -- it may be Tebow Time once again.
Next up: Texans, Colts, Patriots
